But everytime there's news on Reeke, a bigger story always happens at the exact same time. I mean, this supposed split took place and was People's top headline and it wasn't a couple hours later and Tiger Woods supplants their spot and R & J were relegated down below on the page.

This break up did get Reese back on the front page version of the internet so it paid off for her that way. I think a bigger price to pay will follow though. Ted said Jake's friends had a heart to heart with him about her a while back. Then the pictures dried up. Now she has only further revealed herself. The planned breakup may be the reason Atticus went along to the film shoot.
Lets Talk Jake & Reese
Over the weekend there were reports in Kneepads that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon had ended their "relationship." One thing Kneepads has going for it is they are extremely accurate especially when reporting breakups. They don't like to make anyone mad and so they probably had about ten sources for the story. Well, later in the weekend the reps for both Reese & Jake said the story isn't true and are still very much a couple. Uh huh.
I'm a little slow today, but I can't remember the last time I saw reps rushing out and saying that a couple was still a couple. Usually they don't care enough to respond. Why is this time different? Why is this couple different? Now, as you may recall, Jake has a new movie coming out. Prince Of Persia or something like that which is supposed to do a lot of business. Now, does he get more publicity by trotting out Reese again for another publicity tour or does he get more by breaking up and finding someone new just in time for the press tour? By saying they are still a couple then there really is no drama or zing it is just the same old same old.
Has anyone seen them together lately? I don't specifically go looking for pictures of them together and every picture I have seen of Reese she was flying solo. I think they did something on Halloween together, but prior to that it had been awhile as well. I am trying to figure out the angle here, but I can't. Any ideas?

It does seem like it's been going on for centuries, Ted. I don't dislike Reese, actually I quite like her, and adore Jake. I have know way of knowing if she's a HW pirhanna or not, I hope not. I'd like to see her in more films. But it's better to be true and real, and not have to play HW games. It all may be part of movie promotion tho. :)

^ first off, reading comprehension would really work for you M. I questioned the poster who adamantly stated that Chris was "just" a childhood freind. Maybe in your life proof or facts are not needed, but for most thinking people it helps. I also think Jake and Chirs got busy with their hormones. Like clockwork the name calling starts with you and others who are not begging Ted for info or making all type of excuses for the lack of JaKE AND Austin pictures. Then get frustrated when anyone think that Jake just possibly could be interested in anyone besides Austin Nichols. I give him a few days, as the story just broke, but the one to eventually get the real scoop as to what happened is Ted. He is a gossip columnist and probably has good contacts with his fellow peers.
What stands out loud and clear though is that everyone thinks the whole thing reeks, literally. The contract ex date was already out there as having been renewed, so I dont think money is the issue, although Reese can't pull down the bucks like she used to. Someone being punished for not behaving as they should is more likely.
Reese Won't Give Jakey The Fairytale Wedding He's Always Dreamed Of
Yesterday afternoon, People Magazine sang from the mountain tops that Jakey had slipped on his favorite tutu (the purple one with pink butterflies on it) and pirouetted out of Reese's life forever. A few hours later, Reese's spokesbitch cursed People's name for fucking with his weekend and a denial was issued. Well, now People is saying that their source swore on a stack of Sexiest Man Alive covers that Reese told her friends they had broken up.
The source added that the two have broken up a few times over the years. The main issue is that Jakey is ready to walk down the aisle with a lace veil over his head and a fancy bouquet in his purdy hands, but Reese is farting on that idea. The source went on to say, "As much as everyone thinks they're right there, they're really not near the whole marriage thing. Jake would marry her tomorrow, but Reese doesn't want to go there yet, even though he would like to. There's a huge attraction between them, and they've becomes a team, partners, but Jake can be a little overbearing at times, and Reese is really happy with life right now. Why screw that up or change a good thing?"
Reese could buy a small country with just one of her paychecks, so my guess is that she's not about to let anyone creep in on her money. Smart move. And Jakey only wants to get married because he wants a reason for bitches to throw glitter (no rice or bird seed for him) at him while he makes his way out of the church. I have a solution.
One of my friends didn't have a quinceanera, because her mother was in jail at the time (it's okay to laugh). So when she was in her 20s, she threw herself a belated quinceanera complete with the big white dress, the rhinestone tiara and mariachis. It was a mess, but thankfully there was an open Corona bar.
So my solution is that Jakey should throw himself a belated quince, so he can get the white doves and the choreographed dances he's been dreaming of. And Reese won't have to put a wedding ring on her finger. Problem solved!

regarding the announcement in general... i was thinking about it on my way home from work.
mix-ups happen, but no matter what we think about RW, she is probably a pretty important client to whoever is repping her, and we know that friends are never the source of anything, right?
so the idea that this is just a goof-up is semi-believable, but not really, because of who it is. reese is very concientious of her image and very intolerant of boo-boos (if she's anything like people say). i just have a hard time believing this was an early jump on a planned announcement that was supposed to come out, say, then end of december instead of the end of november. maybe, but i dunno. that's a big name they just bobbled, and if anything gets f'd up in the process, she could be outed as being a fraud, and that would not go down well with her or with Disney.
when i first read on my lj friends page that they had split, after my initial moment of glee, my immediate long-term reaction was - it can't be this easy. and sure enuf, within a couple of hours, the story was changed, it was all a mistake, etc.
but then, based on the last People report i read here, it sounds to me like P is sticking by their source. they aren't saying that it's for sure over, but they are saying that they for sure got told that, and give reasons why it might be so.
which makes me wonder if the whole announce/take back silliness is not part of the strategy to make it more interesting and dramatic, and also to deflect attention from the fact that it was just a lot of hot air and coffee in the first place.
if they are going back and forth and unsure and no one can get the story straight, etc, it keeps them in the news much longer than if they just said, R&J have decided to call it quits due to the stresses of work and travel, etc. if they just wanted to walk away quietly and PRIVATELY with NO FANFARE from a romance gone wrong, that is what they would say, imo.
the fact that they are immediately stringing us along with these guessing games - saying they are still together altho we have no reason to believe it - makes me think the whole thing is a scheme to milk it for every ounce of white space as long as they can.

OT: I finally got a copy of The Informers and have to say that I really enjoyed the film. Not so much the ending but the film in general was powerful. It looked beautiful and fine acting all around. And I'm obviously not objective but Austin was the best part of the film. His character must have been fun to play. So my question is, has the film already been discussed here and if so, could someone tell me what month/year? I like your theory a lot; I had slowly been mentally groping towards something similar. They're launching the breakup news with enough message confusion to make it seem "real." The whole thing is such a sham. I would have at least had a bit more respect for Jake had they just quietly ended it. The fact that it's now got to be paraded in the rags and drawn out like a drama really will leave just as bad a taste in my mouth. I reckon Reese is the majority player behind the drama. She's going to come out on top on this deal. Jake's going to look like the poor schlep who just could not win her heart. After 3 years. L. O. L.

Jake's right now only doing one talk show, Jimmy Kimmel for Brothers. So I really don't get how the split helps him for Brothers. Kimmel gives some of the most softball questions for a late night show. It is more about the laugh.
You haven't seen Tobey promoting the movie yet either on sit downs. It's all been Natalie.
I don't know if they are holding Jake back on interviews till after the movie opens and use him in a couple weeks depending on the momentum of the movie or an award campaign they might be planning, not sure.
For the little bit of press he's doing, for me, it doesn't add up that this would be a part of the strategy for Jake during Brothers.
The breakup story has overshadowed the fact that he has a movie this week, and that makes me still think that this is more about Reese and getting attention than anything else.

I doubt she would've been an issue in the last one either. don't they get a say in the questions, and if the appearance is to promote a movie - as opposed to just stopping by David L to say hi - then they should have more control over the questions.

Spesh... i agree with what you said about the talk shows/interviews. they seem to have made his personal life off limits, and that makes sense since the reason for the interview is his movie, not just a "Let's Catch Up w/ Jake" thing. So i don't see how the timing of the break-up benefits him at all.
And the apple is already starting to turn bad in his direction: he wants to marry her soooo bad, but she doesn't want to commit, blah blah, and she's just tired of it, etc. So he comes off looking like the lesser of the two, which is the way it’s been played out the whole time this has been going on. It's never been equal at all. Which makes sense if you go by Seniority and Clout, which I’m sure they do out there. She totally trumps him in every way that matters in HW, so she is not going to look like anything but a princess when she walks away from this.
