PoP (on)Over

Jake isn't traveling light for this trip over to the UK to promote PoP. But before we get into the mystery box, here's a highlight of a great telephone interview Jake did with 30Ninjas.com

Just as we've long known about Jake.

"I have never been so glad to be wrong because he was everything I expected: smart, articulate, and charming. Nonetheless, there was something that took me by surprise: how much he laughed at himself. For all his accomplishments and over-the-top talent, this is not a guy who takes himself too seriously."

Asked about what the challenges were to making PoP, Jake said, "I think the thing I thought was going to be most difficult was being able to incorporate a sense of humor into the action and being able to communicate character through the action — I’m not going to say it’s easy to do great action, but it is always hard to [convey] character interspersed within fun action. To keep something modern inside something that is kind of classic, which is what the film is — it’s this huge epic movie that is based within this fantasy sixth-century Persia which is based off a video game — to make it modern and then stay true to this swashbuckling Errol Flynn-esque movie. That to me was the most difficult thing, how do you keep it modern while at the same time keeping it old school?

When you’re dealing with a magical dagger that turns back time and you’re used to finding a naturalistic approach to acting or storytelling, it is always a confusing thing in your mind to say, “How do you believe that, how do you believe in this fantasy?” And to me there are a couple things that happen. Mike Newell, the director, came to me, and in talking about the story he said that in sixth century Persia there were mystics and people who believed that this sort of thing could happen, and if someone said that there was a dagger that could turn back time in sixth-century Persia, people would be like, “Oooo, there’s the dagger that turns back time!” So in a sense you have to put yourself in that mind-set. It’s almost like being on stage and acting the way I would if I were going to tell the story to a child. If you are Peter Falk in The Princess Bride, how do you tell the story? Or someone like Ben Kingsley?"

It is an interesting approach that Jake took to telling the story, an epic romantic adventure, like a bedtime story.

Check out the rest of the great interview where he talks about working with Mike Newell and Duncan, getting to improv in front of the camera, and what lesson he learned from Mike that he took with him over at 30ninjas.com

And now for the Top Ten List

The Top Ten's Jake and big black box.

10.New from Disney it's the PoP Home and Travel Gym.

9. Bruck called saying he didn't want to pay for his bags, told Jake he had to take his carry on for him.

8. Trying to reduce his carbon footprint Jake brings along his own composter when he travels.

7. According to In Touch has to return a set of antique dishes.

6. Promised Elmo he could come along, but no more room in first class.

5. Part of his newest magic act. Put a goose in a box and presto and a bigger Goose appears.

4. As part of his contract Jake has to man the Disney PoP up PoP merchandise kiosk after the 3, 5, and 7pm shows.

3. Thought the invitation for the premiere said BYOH (bring your own hookah)

2. Learning from Pasty Stone, Jake knew "You can never have too many hats, gloves, and shoes."
And Number 1....
Thinking it was finally all over. Jake found out he had to still sell Avon to pay for the trip.

LOL2! That was a classic Spesh!

How about one of the top 10, that was discarded from the list?: Disney told Jake that until they see the first weekend of box office green, that he had to pack his own closet this time. *wink*

Disney Geeks out, plots "theater domination" for "Prince of Persia"

Disney studio chairman Rich Ross has assured Bruckheimer that the studio would "kill for the movie," referring to the marketing blitz the studio has planned for the $200 million big-screen adaptation of the video game series that teams Gyllenhaal with up and comer Gemma Arteton.

No one will miss that "Prince of Persia" opens in theaters on May 28....

Disney plans a similar blitz -- which Ross refers to as "theater domination," with bold, out-sized images from the movie plastered all over cinema walls, ceilings, staircases, elevator doors and even the automated ticket machines in shopping mall parking garages in the country's 30 top markets.

Now you see why Jake bearded? Do you think that Disney would have spent all this money, or even signed him up for a film with such a huge production/promotion schedule, if he came our of the closet? Forget about it...

Chely Wright Comes Out - Now What?

Yesterday, news broke that country singer Chely Wright is gay, and we're a tad torn. Don't get us wrong, it's totally fab for anyone to make to bravely come out. Not easy. But the whole baited mystery over the last few weeks has been such a dog-and-pony show just to get gossipy chatter going.

Although Chely's very public choice could be a helpful step in dragging Toothy Tile and the gang out, too?

What do you all think? Did any of you feel baited and pandered to with the whole guessing game? At least we don't promise (always) to reveal our same-sex Blind Vices—that's up to the gay or bisexual star, not us. Just saying, in some ways Wright's method could ultimately be more damaging and hurtful than a simple statement.
The Game Is Over Poll
What did you all think of how Chely's coming out was handled?

* 37.6% Good for her, it was a brave thing to do so publicly
* 62.4% It was a little too pimped-out for my taste

There's a difference between coming out and not bearding.

At least we're in agreement on the reason why he bearded.

Oh my God. They caught me laughing out loud at work at the one about the dishes. I liked number 5 too, though I think Jake would need an even bigger suitcase to fit Austin.

Yep 200 million. If this thing flops and I hope it does I really hope Jake has learned his lesson.

No more boiling water! And everybody can get Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks coffee again. (A few more days of not being able to get coffee in Boston it could have gotten really scary)

Interesting. That exclusive clip is obviously an edited compilation of several interview spots as evident by Jake's attire. They amped up his energy level, I think by speeding up the film ever so slightly. I watched all the originals as they first came out and thought he was a bit casual and relaxed in them, so I noticed the difference immediately. Building enthusiasm. Look at all the smiles in those clips.

Huh. Rubbing elbows & schmoozing so therefore the ring has to go into the jewelry box, Jake??????

Anon, your link & comment is going to go for naught and get deleted because you didn't put a name on it.

Ahhh, there you go, claridges!!

Thanks for the link! We avoided tragedy before Special woke up, lol.

Well, it'll probably be a short night tonight. I woke up at 3:30 this morning, stewing and worrying. Fretting. I hate that.

Though he was nowhere to be seen today, Sophia reportedly enjoyed a romantic hike with her boyfriend and co-star Austin Nichols at Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Maybe he's with his bf.

this is kind of funny (excuse the improper grammar/typing as I'm doing this sneakily!).

We're sitting here working & my cubemate stands up to tell our super "Well, so&so, did you hear?"

"Oh yeah!! Chelly Wright"

And then she asked me if I knew.

lol. I said yeah, I've known for about 2 1/2 weeks that someone was coming out and over the weekend, TMZ found out who it was.

I guess Chelly Wright is from Wellsville KS which is a hop, skip & a jump from here.

I just thought it was funny that here is the "official" day for the news to be released and we've known since the weekend.

Goes to show the internet is where it's at, huh?

Same Jacket

Hmm. Except for the jeans (which are now black), Jake is wearing the exact same jacket he wore when he arrived at Heathrow Airport on Saturday. For hauling such a ginormous black trunk, you would think he had a change of clothes, or two, wouldn't you? Good catch about the ring, claridges. Seems like schmoozing and hubby don't go hand in hand. Or, let's say, ring on hand, in this particular case. *grin*.

People wear the same jacket most of the time, even actors. Maybe he like thst jacket even though it looks cheap and fug.

I thoought he arrives in London on Friday.

Not too many people use the word ginormous, I've seen it here though before used by another poster.

Jake is a bit dull isn't he? Clothes, hair, all blah.

There are several citations of Jake arriving at Heathrow Airport on May 1 (Saturday). And, I could truly care less, if the word ginormous was used by another poster. I didn't know there was a copyright on it.

For someone who appears to have no interest in JG, you sure seem to hang around here enough. "Jake?" Gee, haven't I seen another poster use that word before. Jeesh!
