Funky Footwear Showdown

As Pasty Stone once said ... you can never have enough shoes, hats or gloves.

It's all about the accessories, and today it's about the shoes. Specifically funky footwear. Jake's crocs was the gaunlet that was thrown and now it's time to decide who will win the funky footwear title. There we lots of contenders for the spot from the Jake's woolen clogs, to Austin's chukka boot, but two pairs have risen above all others and they are ready to go head to head.

Gardner Gonna Hunting Crocs vs. The Rain Rain Go -Go Away Boots

Let's get it on.

The Gardner Gonna Hunting Crocs

This is what happens when hunting boots meets garden clog and the result is not pretty.

The camo green molded sole and upper give a uniform look with a chunky funky sole.

Ventilated upper allows for maximum cooling, and less embarrassing odor.

Small vents allow for accessorizing -- bling, sports pins, etc.

Open back allows no only for easy access but can accommodate bulk braces when needed.

Kicky hunter safety convertible orange ankle strap can be worn back for support or up as a bold contrast.

Easy maintenance - hose off, hang up, and you're good to go.

Sleek styling unlike some high water boots (ahem)

The Rain Rain Go-Go Away Boot

When hunting boots meets Wellies with a firemen's twist.

Sleek one piece molded boot and hard sole and heel for maximum stability.

Dark body with hot red and yellow accents compliment in perfect contrast.

Yellow toe accents not only stylish but functional with extra protection for toe break through and scuffs.

High boot just makes long legs look longer.

Internal steel shank in arch for both safety and comfort.

Can been worn under jeans for subtle look, or go for bold with pants tucked in.

Which Sole Reigns? Or will all fall short of the glory of the all might Cordovan?

Now what's a Friday without a little Austy?

Happy Purim! And Happy Easter!

Happy Easter and Happy Purim.

I don't know which shoes to vote for. although I do think the boots are quirkier since Crocs are a hot fashion item. But the orange is a nice eccentric touch too.

As much as I have a fondness for camo green, I also have a fondness for firemen's boots. Sigh. Hell, I can't choose either! I love funky footwear.

Had to laugh at the front page of the Boston Globe this morning, an article about the Red Sox arriving in Japan for the season opener entitled "The Land of The Rising Sox". Hee! Spring is here! Who needs an equinox when you've got the Red Sox?

Happy Purim and Happy Easter, everyone! :*

old Howard Stern interview with Ryan

Apparently, after this one, Reese banned him from ever interviewing with Stern again. Guess divorce got rid of that little edict!

I vote fireman boots! No cordovan. NO!!! The only reason that Spesh mentions cordovan is to torture me. I am very worried that when she comes to visit in 2 weeks, she's going to be wearing cordovan from head to toe! And then I would croak!

destiny said...

Thanks Not the First Time, I got a laugh out of that.

Destiny,

Reese banning him from talking to Stern ever again definitely supports Ted's General Witherspoon picture, doesn't it?

No man should be allowed to wear Crocs. It should be internationally illegal.

Really interesting, and troubling, take on the Larry King murder from the Advocate.

Anonymous said...

No contest. Austin had me the first time I saw those rubber boots. They speak volumes about the man wearing them. How Jake can not be with this man 100% of the time, I'll never know. Who needs fame and fortune when you can have those looks, that charm, wit, and sexiness all in one package.

The Advocate is fount of great stuff today! Article about how damaging it is to gay men and their relationships to try and act straight.

destiny said...

It sure does Not the First Time!

Thanks Wicked, I'm now going to go check out the Advocate--quiet day at work.

Today's the beginning of a four-day holiday for me and although I'll be busy at least I'll be able to post during the day, something I sorely miss when I'm at the office.

Jake's crocs or Austin's fireman boots? To me, there's no competition in terms of appearance. They both look awful! But crocs are better ventilated, which make them more comfortable IMO or at least certainly more pleasant for people around you when you take them off! And since the French word "crocs" often means "fangs" or "teeth", my strictly utilitarian vote goes to "Toothy". ;)

Thanks for the Advocate articles Wicked, I'll be checking them in a minute.

And finally, happy Purim to all posters and lurkers who celebrate this holiday! :)

From datalounge. Dave Annable of Brothers and Sisters had a fling with Jake?? Okayyyy.

"Jake Gyllenhaal and David Annabel had a quick fling in early-mid 2007. Another little bit of Jake gossip, when Heath found out Jake was gay, he thought nothing of it and spoke freely about it to people, news got back to Jake who, all teary, confronted Heath accusing him of laughing about him behind his back. To prove that wasn't the case Heath asked Jake to be his daughter's Godfather, which he got really excited about, for about five minutes."

I really doubt the godfather story.

Ok, that clinches it for me, Jake's crocs are my favorite funky shoes! ;)

Great pic of Austin, BTW.

If that story is true about Dave Annable and Jake then Dave must be bi because I'm pretty sure he is dating the girl on the show who is the new found sister.

Interesting stuff http://i27.tinypic.com/2vacb2f.jpg <-- from the Globe

And I vote for the fireman boots...I'm completely against crocs, they should only be worn in hospitals

I hope everyone is well :)

If the second part of datalounge story is true, could Bulbous Seymour be Heath?

Anonymous said...

Annabele's TV-sister is a lesbian in real life, folks.

Anonymous said...

"Yes him, the guy from Brother and Sisters. He is another one who dated Jesse Metcalfe's ex - the lesbian from Girls Aloud, and the producers of the show are always putting out rumours he is dating which ever co-star he at the time is romancing. They also put out the "not so veiled" blind item he was screwing Sally Field, purely to generate hype and encourage internet gossip."

Anonymous said...

Just to correct myself, the lesbian in question I refered to is not from Brothers & Sisters (though she may be too), it was her from Girls Aloud. Got 'em mixed up; my apologies.

Happy Easter, all!

As for the footwear debate, to be fair Jake isn't wearing those crocs of his own free will, whereas Austin is fully owning his boots. And even though I *love* this description: Kicky hunter safety convertible orange ankle strap, crocs are just a world of no. Forever. Except for the garden and yes, hospitals. Maybe not even the garden. Maybe nowhere visible. But not for everyday, casual wear and they can forget about any sort of fashion statement apart from "hideous". Yep, just turn around and keep walking, crocs.

So I have to go with the boots on this one. Sure, they're kooky, but at least they're practical. You never know when it might suddenly rain and they're perfect for any undesirable terrain. And these boots are being worn with total confidence, in complete view, over the pants with a fetching pose to..boot. Austin seems to be saying, "you know it", Jake seems to be saying, "yeah, I know".

Anonymous said...

Bulbous Seymour is McBongo. I'm sorry but I don't see Heath (RIP) bitching about Jake being gay at Hollywood parties--to avoid people talking about him being gay. That was McBongo.

Anonymous said...

ITA gossip girl plus I don't think Ted would refer to Heath as “stud with hot bod” , though IMO Heath had a way more gorgeous body than MM. I think Ted insists on the references to BS’s body because BS is well known for his toned physique which definitely sounds like MM not Heath. DL rumor reads like total bs. One more thing, Heath wasn't gay, bi maybe gay no way, MM on the other hand…

Anonymous said...

Nadine from GA is a lesbian? So she never had an under-the-blanket aircraft fling with Wenty after all? Phew.

Boots and crocs - a tie, I love them both.

destiny said...

As always bltb you're absolutely right about the body language. I also have to say I really hate crocs too, I just like the fact that Jake was wearing something besides the lumberjack uniform.

Anonymous said...

Also, Bulbous Seymour, according to Ted, was known more for his bod and less on his talent. That wasn't the case with Heath.

frenchy said...

Talking about the horrible-looking crocs, does anybody know who started this trend? I think I saw Jack Nicholson wearing a pair too in a recent pic.

Anyway, Bltb's right, in Jake's case they look temporary... unless he falls in love with them and then you know what THAT means: we won't be rid of them before 2011. ;)

If it makes you feel any better London, even though I don't like the way they look I would probably wear them if I actually found them comfortable as the less shoe the better I like them.

They are Caymans in khaki. I love them :):)

That time - YES, who could forget the Eatser bunny? :D

bltb said...

London, don't mind me, I tend to go a little overboard about things I don't like. ;) I think the bigger problem for me is that I find them indicative of a lot of throwaway trends; just one more thing for people to think they need and it becomes homogenous, ubiquitous and a little silly. But! I am not one to barge in on one person's love of their crocs. :) I would take any shoe or clothing trend over cell phones any day.

If Jake takes to his crocs because of Mario, I'll cry. I'm getting images of Reeke and kids out walking in various-colored crocs. D: PR, you didn't read this here.

So, as you know, Annie “Anne” Hathaway accepted the HRC Ally award last weekend.

Well, HRC just now posted the video of Hathaway’s acceptance speech, in which she discusses all the work she’s got ahead of her, her brother’s coming out and how she doesn’t consider herself just an ally to the gays, but part of the family. Oh, girl!

The following letter was written to Sally Kern by a high school senior in OK. He tried to deliver it to her but was barred.

Rep Kern:

On April 19, 1995, in Oklahoma City a terrorist detonated a bomb that killed my mother and 167 others. 19 children died that day. Had I not had the chicken pox that day, the body count would've likely have included one more. Over 800 other Oklahomans were injured that day and many of those still suffer through their permanent wounds.

That terrorist was neither a homosexual or was he involved in Islam. He was an extremist Christian forcing his views through a body count. He held his beliefs and made those who didn't live up to them pay with their lives.

As you were not a resident of Oklahoma on that day, it could be explained why you so carelessly chose words saying that the homosexual agenda is worst than terrorism. I can most certainly tell you through my own experience that is not true. I am sure there are many people in your voting district that laid a loved one to death after the terrorist attack on Oklahoma City. I kind of doubt you'll find one of them that will agree with you.

I was five years old when my mother died. I remember what a beautiful, wise, and remarkable woman she was. I miss her. Your harsh words and misguided beliefs brought me to tears, because you told me that my mother's killer was a better person than a group of people that are seeking safety and tolerance for themselves.

As someone left motherless and victimized by terrorists, I say to you very clearly you are absolutely wrong.

You represent a district in Oklahoma City and you very coldly express a lack of love, sympathy or understanding for what they've been through. Can I ask if you might have chosen wiser words were you a real Oklahoman that was here to share the suffering with Oklahoma City? Might your heart be a bit less cold had you been around to see the small bodies of children being pulled out of rubble and carried away by weeping firemen?

I've spent 12 years in Oklahoma public schools and never once have I had anyone try to force a gay agenda on me. I have seen, however, many gay students beat up and there's never a day in school that has went by when I haven't heard the word **** slung at someone. I've been called gay slurs many times and they hurt and I am not even gay so I can just imagine how a real gay person feels. You were a school teacher and you have seen those things too. How could you care so little about the suffering of some of your students?

Let me tell you the result of your words in my school. Every openly gay and suspected gay in the school were having to walk together Monday for protection. They looked scared. They've already experienced enough hate and now your words gave other students even more motivation to sneer at them and call them names. Afterall, you are a teacher and a lawmaker, many young people have taken your words to heart. That happens when you assume a role of responsibility in your community. I seriously think before this week ends that some kids here will be going home bruised and bloody because of what you said.

I wish you could've met my mom. Maybe she could've guided you in how a real Christian should be acting and speaking.

I have not had a mother for nearly 13 years now and wonder if there were fewer people like you around, people with more love and tolerance in their hearts instead of strife, if my mom would be here to watch me graduate from high school this spring. Now she won't be there. So I'll be packing my things and leaving Oklahoma to go to college elsewhere and one day be a writer and I have no intentions to ever return here. I have no doubt that people like you will incite crazy people to build more bombs and kill more people again. I don't want to be here for that. I just can't go through that again.

You may just see me as a kid, but let me try to teach you something. The old saying is sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will never hurt you. Well, your words hurt me. Your words disrespected the memory of my mom. Your words can cause others to pick up sticks and stones and hurt others.

Sincerely

Tucker

Thanks for the Advocate links today Wicked. Both stories were really good.

The music selection was great today. Really got my morning going. Thanks.

And on the shoes I'm definately with Austin and the fireman boots..those clogs are just too ugly and im not a prude when it comes to footwear. I'd even try the Nike trash sneakers first. LOL.

Hi everybody;) Crocks...hate them, sorry, but they`re just god da.. awful! My oldest daughter got a pair while we were in spain. My mother(who loves to talk...LOUD...a lot) loved them because they`re comfortable..and that`s all that matters. I usually hate those things because they make me UNCOMFORTABLE... because i`m kind of a dressed up person.
Love you choosed NPH as your ID, frenchy:) I haven`t seen Harold and kumar yet, but i love him as Barney in How i met your mother. Great comedy. Seen 44 episodes twise. I also want to say... i knew what was coming two days ago, special... as soon as i saw "unicorn". LOVED IT:)
Well, me and my husband have started saving for a trip to N.Y when "Brothers" is to premirere. We are looking very much forward to meeting you guys....and N.Y:)
