An audience member at the Sunday matinee of "August Osage County" looked on in shock as the usually cuddly couple kept their heads down "texting on their BlackBerrys the entire time." I love it. Busted indeed! If they were drawing attention it was probably because their screens were distracting. Nothing drives me crazier than to be stuck near someone who wants to text their way through a movie or play because the light from the screen is annoying in a dark theater.
I'm suprised E! used that picture with Chris in it.
While I do think they were at the play, I question the rest of the story. If other stories can be made up, then this one can be too.
Why do I think it is legit?
It's not that Page Six, ran the story but WHEN the story ran.
They ran the story after they knew they had left NYC. If they had ran it while they were still there, they could have done some more public canoodling to counter the story.
Holding it until after they left and make it the lead of the Page Six section ( NY Post online edition) speaks more than just the blurb.
They were obviously bored and left the play at intermission if that sighting is to be believed.
That was Sunday matinee, they were spotted acording to Gawker that same day around 5:00 around 34th and 8th which means they never returned to the play.
Another report had them canoodling before the play started, canoodling/texting. etc, it's all rude and frowned upon during a play or movie, you would think they would know better. I bet they were texting their pals for dinner plans at Prune's that night.
As for the play I bet Avon threw in the tickets along with the hotel etc, thinking they would like to see the hottest play in NY, I guess not.
They are increasing coming across as self-entitled HW tools including the lame-ass hiding from the paps and leaving the hotel seperately, please.
PS: I think E was oblivious to Chris in the pic, probably thought that it was some random dude in the background, they didn't mention Jake and friend.
People magazine had a picture of Jake and Chris on their site last year under the caption Jake and friend have lunch in LA, previously they would cut Chris out.
While I do think they were at the play, I question the rest of the story.

The previous description had them holding hands and kissing at the same play, so apparently they were doing both, just hope the juvenile display of affection happened before the play started and their little heads just couldn't understand the play pulled out their blackberries and then left like so many other couples (usually teenagers) do when I go to plays and movies.

Personally, I believe the heads down, texting (Jake probably texting Austin) over the kissing in public. Not just wishful thinking. Reese is so uptight, I've just never bought these public kissing sessions in the first place. Sounds too much like horny teenagers and something fangirls would float. I do think it was rude of them to do the texting while the play was on. Shocks me that Jake would do this since he has acted in plays himself.

I feel the same way, M - I never got that impression of him prior to the J&R era. I hate that his management seems to be "dumbing him down" to appeal to a certain demographic. That and conspicuous displays of consumption. J&R seem to bring out the worst in each other.

It sounds like the play was set up as a part of a day long thing. That schedule was outrageously packed for a Sunday. It sounds like "you will go to the play, leave at intermission and head out for dinner." I do think Jake wanted to see the play, but seeing only half of it --what's the point. And I suspect he would have wanted to see it with someone else.
I wonder if the texting was incoming too, letting them know where they were head to next, and the text outgoing to let people know that they were heading out soon and would meet the rest of the friends over at Prune.
Sometimes you do things to keep busy to avoid the person you don't want to talk to. We do it at the office when we shuffle through papers, check blackberries or look over at our computers to read emails.
That is so cool about Cynthia Nixon. I did not realize she'd been with her partner for 5 years.
If we're lucky, maybe we'll get to see more of Austin on FNL.

I have this awesome soundtrack CD (love those soundtracks) from the movie Boys on the Side that has Melissa, the Indigo girls, Joan Armitrading, Bonnie Raitt and other female singers on it singing about (what else?) relationships. I agree Special. Jake has mentioned going to musicals (Spring Awakening) and plays himself and we have had sightings of him at theatre on recent trips to NYC. I do think he tries to support theatre. I don't get that he would purposely be rude during a show.

It is wonderful that Cynthia Nixon talked about her gf while in the middle of a press junket for Sex and the City. The comment I thought was interesting was how the press stopped chasing her after she stopped hiding her gf. Although I don't know how much she hid her, it was more a case of just not talking about her. I think it was pretty well-known in NY that she'd left her boyfriend for this woman.
This is a bizarre but fascinating reference to Reese, Jake and Austin by Henry Waxman:

Henry Waxman - Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California's 30th congressional district (West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills).
Also one of the most influential liberal members of Congress.
Waxman is on the committee investigating the steroid scandal of Major League Baseball.

From now on, I'm going to adopt a simple rule when it comes to Jake - no pictures, no proof. I will give no creedence to unsubstantiated sightings and blurbs in trashy magazines. Until his next film comes out (don't hold your breath), his entire world is going to consist of fog and spin.
On a less cynical note, I'm glad that we know - for certain - that he spent time with Chris, who is ever so predicably referred to on WDW as (merely) an 'old friend'.

Re the texting in a theatre, I don't know what's acceptable in the US but in the UK using mobiles in the theatre is truly the ultimate faux pas. Well maybe apart from canoodling, so a bit of a double wammy for Reeke there.
In reality, and not to sound too uptight, both these actions are just disrepectful to both the performers and the other members of the audience. Jake and Reese may have got the tickets through Avon, but the other people in the audience had gone to see the play and had probably paid for those tickets with their own money. And, I'm pretty sure that Broadway tickets are not cheap. If I'd shelled out $40(?) to $80(?) (I'm basing these estimates on UK, non-London theatre tickets prices) I'd be a bit cheesed off if the person next to me was either necking their 'girlfriend' or texting their boyfriend. (I'd be even more pissed off if I had to sit next to old Reesy, but that just a personal thing).
It all just looks bad. I'm sure Jake's mother would have something to say about his behaviour.
Full price Broadway tickets run around $100.

I still can't get over the texting though. Even my nephews (all under 14) understand the basic concept that you turn your mobile phone off and try to concentrate on the play. Its not that difficult to grasp.
I don't know what it is, but people seem to think nothing of texting in NY, although it is worse at movies than at plays. With movies I figure people are just used to being at home and doing ten things at once. At the theater or concerts I kind of wonder if some of it isn't coming from people who go to these things just so they can say they did, and not because they're really interested. I always say something if the person is close enough to me to do so. People just don't see to get it when you complain about the light from these gadgets.
that's dreadful destiny.. at the cinema over here we get a funny orange sponsored advert, sort of telling you to switch off your phone. At the theatre or the opera you get a really stern sounding annoucement telling you the same. Actually you've done this before the announcement even comes on because i'd hate to see what an opera audience would do to someone who tried to use their phone.. there would be blood, believe me.

Cell phones are verboten--and some actors have stopped performances midway to reprimand obnoxious theatergoers who talk on phones. I'm sure it'll be a matter of time before the pre-show announcement tells audiences to turn off their Blackberries or else.
Reese and Jake's behavior is inexcusably rude--not only to the actors onstage but to the people around them. I don't know how anyone even the gung-ho Reese/Jake lunatic fans can condone this.

It just galls me to no end that people can't even consider anyone but themselves and have to be asked to please not disturb someone, they are not able to realize that themselves. I think cell phones are a huge pain in the ass! I don't multitask if I'm at a movie or the theater, I'm there to escape, enjoy and totally immerse myself in the story. Very annoying. Or when they keep checking messages, or when they are yacking away and not paying attention while they are driving. Who really needs to be "on call" like that except for a dr., and I'll bet they even turn the dang things off to get some peace. I only use mine for emergencies or if I'm going to be late, or something. If you are that busy, have sick children, or whatever, stay home! ;)

In cinemas over we get a warning on the screen to turn off you cells. I don't think they're mentioning Blackberries and the like yet but I rarely see people texting. In a theater, texting would be considered extraordinarily and I'm not sure the texter wouldn't get a warning from a usher.
If this Page 6 sighting is legit, I agree with Special: they probably attended that play as part of their required "love circuit". I can't see Jake nor Reese being that rude to other theater patrons. Wouldn't be surprised if the texting didn't last long and people around them were not really annoyed.

re texting in a theater. sure they would get a warning but prolly during the next intermission (can't you see an usher walking in, getting their attention and asking them to stop texting, right when the play is on? No, it would be done later). but then Reeke left at the intermission. on their own accord, from embarrassment at being warned or because they foigured it wasnt worth attending the play if they couldn't text during it? - who knows.
even IF they werent texting, in my opinion I think its rude to the actors and production crew to leave a play at intermission (unless for emergency, which it wasn't, they went to dinner). I go to plays all the time & even if i hate it I still watch it to the end out of respect to the people who worked on it and because theres always something to be learned.
