The Results are In!

The big winner is the Movie Club, with almost 70% of the votes. I have to say I'm surprised and pleased with how popular Reports on Gay News was too. We will be looking to incorporate both of these features in the near future.

We need to hear from you all now. What movie would you like to have as our first Movie Club feature? Throw out your suggestions and we will do a poll next week so you can vote on them. Since it's my post, I get to make the first suggestion. :) I say Ang Lee's The Ice Storm. I just recently watched it and it might be an interesting compare and contrast with Brokeback. Let's hear from you guys now.

If "Lust, Caution" is already out in most countries it would be interesting to compare that in depth with BBM. Same themes (living a double life) and controversy but a different genre.

Photo slide show of the Washington Post's Second Annual Peep Diorama Contest

These are dioramas that are made of of marshmallow Peeps! This year they got 800 entries. These are the 37 best. My favorites- the Egyptian one and the Larry Craig one!

^^Good Morning!

I love marshmallow Peeps! Another sign of Spring. These dioramas are really clever, love the Peep Art gallery - Peep Warhol, Lichtenstein and Haring! ;) They have so many crazy colors now, I'm a traditional yellows chick Peep. :)

Glad the Movie Club won, and I like the idea of starting with The Ice Storm, Wicked. I have never seen that. I love movies so much that any suggestion is fine. I'd love to see Lust, Caution too - the previews were beautiful. It'd be great to have Gay News too.

Tucker's letter to Rep. Kern was wonderful - I agree, his mother would be proud.

Wow, I haven't heard this song in a looooooong time - love those surfer guitars! :)

Fantastic article about a woman who works through the experience of marrying and having children with a gay man

Some time in the future I would love to see some discussion on Fried Green Tomatoes. I liked this movie and have some questions about it. Just a thought.

^^Oh I loved that, and the book as well! I second that, Joker. :)

I love the Peeps show and all the cultural references, including some of my favorites like U2 and Sponge Bob.

I'm feeling a little brain dead about movie suggestions at the moment, so I'll comment later on that.

Peeps Rules!

But I have a few rules in for peeps. I am one of those who like my peeps a bit aged. Yup you gotta harden those those softies up.

Movies..so many I don't know where to start. But the idea about looking at Lust Caution is interesting. Ang has recurring themes in all of his movies, despite the setting or story.

First of all thanks for the link to Tucker's letter - he was barred from delivering it but I hope that it gets so much publicity that Kern cannot avoid acknowledging it.

The great article I Married a Gay Man (thanks for that link IMAGM!) should also be required reading for Kern IMO.

Very happy the movie club won! And I'd love for some of our daily posts to be reports on gay news too. :)

I love all your suggestions. Watching an Ang Lee film would be great. To The Ice Storm and Lust, Caution I'll add The Wedding Banquet, comparing the dramatic and the comedic take of Lee on the subject of a gay couple's struggles could be interesting.

Joker, I watched Fried Green Tomatoes again recently and I thought about that time when you suggested that movie. ;) FGT is a superb film and I'd love to talk about it too.

So right now I have three titles in my head, namely The Wedding Banquet, Law of Desire and Maurice.

But I'm easy when it comes to movies. No matter the winner, I'm sure it will be fun to discuss. :)

And Tinhat, if you're lurking, your talking about the music of Boys on the Side the other day just made me want watch that movie again. I did yesterday and I found the music so good I went online and got the CD! :)

The winners of the Peep Diorama Contest!

Today we are going to plant and clean up the yard. Tink will dig holes where they are not wanted. Potter will worry about the rake, which he is afraid of.

Joker and all those who liked Fried Green Tomatoes, you really should read Fannie Flagg's books. She is an unexpectedly good writer.

Can you keep pigs in Brentwood?

Jamie Lee Curtis -- AARP cover woman.

Curtis says growing older means paring down to an essential version of yourself.

"I've let my hair go gray. I wear only black and white. Every year I buy three or four black dresses that I just keep in rotation. I own one pair of blue jeans. I've given away all my jewelry, because I don't wear it," she says.

I hope Reese did her research before getting pigs. So many pets bought around holidays are impulse buys. Especially bunnies, chicks, and pigs around Easter. Tomorrow's post will actually address this topic, so stay tuned!

Pig Pics.

TOTAL PR PHOTO OP
unless paps hang around pig farms in Vincent Alabama/Vincent California [upper desert LA area]. umm don't think so. on either one.

Reese not trying to hide from camera, not upset at invasion of privacy esp with kids on private family outing. What? Reese would never use her kids for PR photo ops?

GET THE KID TO SMILE buy Ava a baby animal to get her looking like any other kid normally does or like when she's with Dad intsead of the glum face when she's with Mama Bully in those other photo ops

EVERYTHING TASTES BETTER WITH BACON
GQ Feb 07 Pig Gate.

Reese said you have to be the one who cares less in a relationship so it be a good lesson for the kids. and besides she loves bacon.

JAKE ABSENT FROM PIG PICS. sore foot/Nailed party in So Carolina is glaring acceptable excuse. conscious decision....not so obvious.

Some suggestions for movie club:

Kitschy Kitschy Cool
From Charles Busch -- Psycho Beach Party, and Die Mommy Die,

and Del Shores's Sordid Lives -- with Delta Burke, Beth Grant, Olivia Newton John. Sordid Lives is going to be serialized for the LOGO network (LGBT network from MTV).

How can you buy pigs as pets when you love bacon?

Not sure if its me or the all the pain meds from my visit to the dentist yesterday, but I think the Peeps are multiplying here.

Birthday's party in full swing over here!!!

Ok, one more suggestion for the movie club: Gods and Monsters. Any vote for that particular one?

Spesh, can you send some of your pain meds over here? You make them sound like lots of fun! :D :D

Ha, animals as Easter gifts, a great heartbreak of mine. :( Looking forward to tomorrow's post Wicked.

I've always liked Jamie Lee Curtis, nice to see her not going the botox route, and she looks great.

I did think of Pig Gate when I read the Reese story.

One can never have too many peeps.

Me too, Destiny! :)

Peeps - I have loved them for years; to me, they are pop art. I have plush, stuffed one, and I love them for Easter baskets.

The little pigs are adorable, but they will become big one day. Don't get a bunny, chick or little baby animal unless you plan to keep him, I say. :(

Funny I have been checking out some of the things I missed since I been in Fla. When I got back to my PC at home I wanted to check out the Brent/Brent video that was linked cause I couldnt see it in Fla. Looks like it has been taking down since we linked it. Darn this dirty old man wanted to see it.

Oh gag. Cantara has posted on her LJ account that she has proposed marriage to Stephen Gyllenhaal. And on her facebook account, when it comes to her relationship status, she says "it's complicated."

By the way, she has October Sky in its entirety on her LJ account: http://cantaraworld.livejournal.com/

Anonymous said...

She says this about Jake's father: - Stephen Gyllenhaal is ninth in direct line from the original Nils Gyllenhaal.
- Stephen is my...well, you know."

UGH!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I would like to suggest the film Wilde for the movie club. Its a must see and I know it would provide a lot of stimulating coversation here on the blog.

My respect for Stephen Gyllenhaal went down significantly as as result of his association with Cantara, and now this. Is there something in the water at the Gyllenhaal household?

Anonymous said...

gay films I like: Gia, Wedding Banquet, Fried Green Tomatoes, My private Idaho. will have to think of others.
interesting re Cantara & SG. I thought she is married to someone else? something in the water..lol

Never saw that film Orchid but it's on my "must-see" list. Haaaa, voting for that first movie won't be easy, I love all your suggestions. :)

Two words of advice for Cantara: "professional restraint".

Anonymous said...

I decided to take a break and not Jake for a day. Dear me, what a series of events. So the rumors about Stephan and Naomi's marriage seem to be true. Not totally surprised about Cantara, I suspected something there, but never thought she would put it on her blog. I bet the affair was already on when the leaking Ramona's name blow up happened. I wonder if the Jake Watch girls have heard about this.

I second the suggestion of God and Monsters for the movie selection. One of my all time favorite movies.

Don't know what to make about the pig shopping. Agree, not a place a pap would hang around, unless they followed her there. Jake's comment about slaughtering pigs got lots of press. He was not there. Is she making some sort of statement? She does look a bit thick, but if you were pregnant, would you really go to a pig farm? After 30, the weight starts to stay on unless you really work at it.

Anonymous said...

why would you not go to a pig farm if you are pregnant? is it unsafe or smelly to make you sick?

Anonymous said...

I have never been to a pig farm myself. But I've been to state fairs with pigs and farm animals. Even when the animals are clean, there are strong scents everywhere. When pregnant, aromas can instantly make you ill, wanting to throw up. Like your nose is hyper sensitive. Especially in the early months. A pig farm would be something I would certainly have avoided. Maybe I had a more sensitive nose than most, but I do think this is a common reaction.

Good movie suggestions today. I can't really add too much to the list since I haven't seen any of them except for Fried Green Tomatoes and Gia. I always did want to see Lust, Caution so that would work for me.

The thought of Reese buying a pig is funny to me for some reason. I wonder where she's going to keep it. The pig slaughtering comment came to my mind as well.

Who is Cantara? Stephen is having an affair??? Yikes.

Clarity, I promise you don't want to know :( It's very depressing news, if true.

Hope R doesn't buy pigs as pets only for J to turn them into yummy sausages :D

All the film suggestions sound great! There are only two or three I haven't seen but I'd be happy to rewatch nearly all of them. Perhaps the choice can be discussed in a kind of cross-thread way so it doesn't turn into a task?

Peeps - I am new to Peeps.

Happy Easter everyone *
