Long in the Tooth(y)

Five Years. Some days it feels like ages ago. Other days seems so quick.
Long before Brokeback there was Toothy. So much has happened. So many guesses, comments, letters, and hints. And that's just at Ted's. That's not including how this one blind item took off and buzzed it way all over the 'net, countless comments, mentions on every major gossip blog, and even inspiring dedicated blogs.

Despite everything that has happened or has been said. One thing that has never changed. Toothy Tile and Grey Goose are still together.
So what is the traditional anniversary gift for 5th Anniversary? Wood.

And the modern anniversary gift? Silverware. (just no 'spoons please)

One Adorable Blind Vice
Okay, sugar-muffins, the only reason this one's in the Vice section is because until quite recently, Toothy Tile was dating his superpopular, superannoyingly perfect girlfriend. Not boyfriend.
Which, if you ask this old gossip whore, is the classification Tile would prefer his significant others be filed under in the very near future.

Mere days ago, while everyone was hooting and complaining about this gown and that host from the Oscars, Tile was right out in the open holding hands with his man in a West Hollywood restaurant--which shall remain nameless...because I love going there and they probably won't serve me anymore if I start outing their customers, ca-friggin'-peesh?

Not that I'd be outting anybody, anyway. Mr. Tile took care of that himself. Covertly, but he did it.

It was late in the afternoon; everybody had cleared out. Save Tile and his man-amigo, who extended his hands flat on the marble table (yes, that's a hint) until they were intertwined with Tile's. Massive smiles then appeared on both daring dudes.Too sweet!

And such a departure for this debauched department, doncha think? Don't worry, as sure as Tile's famous ex knew, deep down, way below her doable dimples, what Tile really wanted (hence, the breakup), next week, we'll be right back on salacious patrol, damn sure.

And it ain't: Tobey M, Keanu Reeves, Jamie Foxx

Jake Gyllenhaal, grabbin' some Cali-esque grub at Basix Café. Boys Town. Gabbing fer days with a guy-pal, Jake-poo, decked out in a white sweatshirt hoodie and jeans, covered up his buzzed noggin with a red baseball cap.

The sensitive hunks lingered on fer over an hour, smiling, exchanging childhood stories--with a bit of misty-eyed emotion even? Hey, take it up with my WeHo Desk, 'kay?

Jake Revving an Engine—Instead of a Chick?

Well, we already told you Jake Gyllenhaal wasn't seriously movin' on from Reese Witherspoon with hottie Olivia Munn, right? (As if.) So just how will the cute little beefy boy get back into a hot, full-throttle sitch, you wonder?

Yeah, whatever, even if you don't, we do! 'Cause we are serious about our love for the Jakey-poo, a man who lives to keep us all guessin'. But it's no secret what J.G.'s next somewhat surprising move just might be...

Inside sources exclusively reveal to us that Gyllenhaal's peeps have contacted the races of all races, the Indianapolis 500, to try and finagle the dimpled movie star as this year's Grand Marshal!

Get out!

That's like, so Paul Newman! Or just really weird, not sure which.

"They're trying to push him for Prince of Persia," snipped one of deal-making insiders, regarding Camp Gyllenhaal's motivations. "I don't know if it's going to work out, though."

No deal, we're told, has yet been finalized. Dates make sense, at least, as Prince opens Memorial Day weekend, the same time they run the Indy 500.

Still, not exactly sure what Prince's flowing-haired, battling and lovelorn hero has to do with toughass race-car driving, but guess there's supposed to be an action connection? Desperately trying to open an overly expensive, kinda weird-sounding flick is more like it, but we've always been a bit on the caustic side here at the A.T. Maybe there's a more plausible fit we're not getting?

We've asked Jake's rep for comment and to help us out here. We'll keep you informed.

Despite everything and whatever is said about them, you know that what it is that keeps them together is genuine and isn't for show or convenience, just the opposite. I mean just maturing in your 20's can strain relationships, HW lifetstyle can crush any relationship, let alone having a same sex relationship in HW, and yet this endures. That says so much about their love and commitment.

Dear Ted:
I have been reading your column since early 2000s ('00-'02). I remember you talking about Toothy Tile then. I always thought it was Tommy boy. What say you?
—Flash

Dear Hard to Say:
Which "Tommy boy" are you referring to? Hanks? Interesting, but way off.

Dear Ted:
I read a lot more in your columns about Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols than I'd expect to. Figured the four of us One Tree Hills fans were the only ones left who cared. Go figure! Anyway, what ever happened to the rumored romance between Sophia Bush and James Lafferty? Seems like that went poof!
—Emily

Dear Out With the Old Costar:
Yeah, they were together for a hot second. What castmembers haven't on this set? After all, OTH has been around since before Sarah Palin killed her first moose, right?

Dear Ted:
Who's deeper in the closet? Toothy or Judas Jack-Off? I'd say Toothy, since he's also hiding Baby Tile, but JJO seems to go to great lengths to hide his true self...thoughts?
—Scott

Dear Hard One:
Tough! The way Toothy's been acting lately, I'm gonna go with him. Though I don't say JJO coming out anytime soon, either.

Dear Ted:
Toothy Tile truly is never going to come out, is he? Just answer me this: Will Grey Goose continue to wait around for him, or is this duo running out of love and time?
—J

Dear Sweet Thing:
Poor Grey Goose will wait for his man until he's old and stuffed, hence, his name.

Let's see. The females Jake hung out with at the Oscars, that we know of and have pics of, were Rachel, Maggie and Gabby. Rumors of romance or hookup is ixnay with Gabby (she's happily married) so doubt she would be okay with that. Maggie, well she's his sister (and married). Guess who won (or lost!) by default.

Whaaa said...

What are you talking about ^^^^^. Gabby isn't married. And she didn't "hang out" with Jake. She told Kimmel she ambushed a photo op to get in frame with Jake.

Does Anybody Really Buy The Act?

Since we have already established that it is not easy to be "gay in Hollywood," you then have to wonder. Does anyone really ever buy the image that stars try to sell them? You have some celebs who tip of the paparazzi with information of there whereabouts to that they stay relevant, and some that embrace that charade with open arms.

What I am trying to understand is, why put so much hard work and effort into something that people are questioning anyway? You have two people who are forced to act like a happy couple when most of the time they cannot stand each other. So many people are hurt by the outcome of these situations and innocent people get sucked into so much, I don't think it is wort it.

Does the studios think we are stupid. I mean, it's obvious that some people do fall in love while filming. Well, in lust. But when every single co-star begins pairing up, did they think we wouldn't notice? And now not only movie studios, but television networks have discovered the same recipe. I personally still do not get the appeal of seeing a movie or watching a show just because the co-stars are together. Doesn't everyone realize that
it's a movie, not Real World? We aren't not getting a glimpse into their lives.

Of course there are levels to the showmance. You have your PB, paparazzi buddy. They are generally just someone that you get photographed with in places that it seems you were trying to avoid it. Then you have you Shipmates. They are the ones that you are actually "dating" and must be seen at least once a day doing normal things. Then you have the contractors. They are the ones who walk down the aisle. Usually only lasting a couple of years just to garner publicity. All of these are meant for publicity but a lot of them usually a bigger name with a smaller name.

But when the stars go into the showmance willingly, it is usually to hide something. For instance, if sexuality is an issue, obviously a beard is the way to go. But some have such big stars in their eyes that they know by hooking up, they will get stalkerazzi after them. Some have spun such huge public stories that they have lost themselves in the whole mess.

But does anyone really buy any of it? Fans already suspect things about their favorite stars and when you try to shove something fake down their throats they are going to know. Don't stars realize that fame is something you can never fully catch? You will be chasing it constantly. You can fake all you want to get where you want to be, but in the end you will end up alone. When the contracts run out, and the secrets are revealed, you lose everything you have worked for. So I hope all the money is enough, because that's all you, and maybe I, will have to keep you warm at night.

Is it Possible to be Gay in Hollywood

Rumors have circulated that a star would be on the cover of The Advocate and finally announce himself as gay. I knew who it would be, he has been toying with the idea for years. Sean Hayes may not be the huge star that you thought it would be, but in my book this makes him a star.

In a world where people are so close minded that people have to actually put on a show to keep a job in this business, this is a ray of light. Though a small one, Hayes should be thought of as brave man. No matter whether you are a working actor or a has been, it takes a lot of guts to come out of the closet.

I would hope that this little movement would actually make people see that coming out as gay isn't the nail in your coffin. Look at Neil Patrick Harris, he will always be known as Doogie Howser M.D, that smart kid that somehow became a doctor. He was forced out of the closet by a certain douche bag, but he took lemons and made lemonade. He soared to success as a womanizer on How I Met Your Mother and the gay label has not affected him at all. Would he have been considered to play Prince Of Persia or a lead in a romantic movie? No, and that is what keeps major stars from coming out.

It has nothing to do with the actual star. Most of us want to come out, want to leave an honest life and not lie to the people that have pretty much made our careers, the fans. But a lot of us have dreams of being a HW success and coming out about our sexuality puts a limit on our success. Many stars have come out, but not one star that you have waited for or suspected.

Just once, would it be possible for an A-List star to admit that they are gay and still maintain the same amount of success? Let's say hypothetically that Tom Cruise came out. Would you still go to see his huge blockbuster with him saving the world, acting all macho and kissing girls? Or if by some chance, Jake Gyllenhaal came out as gay. Prince Of Persia would never have happened with him because the gay image would be in people's head. Not only that, studios would never use an outspoken homosexual as one of their action leads. It's unheard of and if you ask the studios, never going to happen.

And now that stars have put so much effort into putting the image out that you expect, if they were to come out as gay it is possible the backlash could ruin them. If you have always seen them with a woman, or a girlfriend, or even if they have kids, learning that this whole time they were gay, would ruin your perception of them. They would have to admit that everything you believed about them and saw, was a lie.

In general, it's not just the stars fault, nor does it lay on the studio's shoulders. The studios still believe middle America is the consensus and that the world isn't ready for a gay movie star/action hero. But everyone's image of gay is so strewn that people have no idea and think of all gays as rainbow riding fairies. I have news for you, gays come in all shape, sizes and personalities. And it makes you think why we should label ourselves to begin with. We are human, all of us. Isn't that enough?

We have asked you who you thought of as "Definitely Gay" in HW. These are the popular answers:

Taylor Lautner
Tom Cruise
Jensen Ackles

(cont)

gossip boy said...

(cont)

With these being 3 of the most popular star right now, give or take a little with Jensen, it seems everyone has their mind made up about them already. Tom Cruise has been thought to be gay for his entire career, which has not made the slightest bit of difference when it comes to his box office income.

Seems to me that Hollywood should realize that no one is stupid. We think of a lot of our stars as gay anyway, but we still go and see their movies. It's called acting for a reason and as long as the movie can entertain us, we will go and see it. But if the movie is shit, gay or not, it's going to bomb. We need a A-Lister to come out and start a revolution. Any ideas?

i`m SO proud of NPH!!! and i`m so proud he brought david to the afterparty. i get used to love them. so used that i took them for granted and didn`t expect them at all. wow, i guess my love for that couple didn`t get dustet away afterall. i...well, my stumach needs a bathroom, so it thinks;),when a blind vice that might be about them comes up. it`s just not it`s usual self;) that`s why i know i still love that couple<3
i know jake is a serious movie-actor and neil is more known in a different league, but i can`t help but wondering if jake did enview neil this oscar-number being openly gay.
i think jake did great under the nathan interview. what an akward question and what was he suppose to answere? i remember an interview after "brokeback" when heath said jake came from a wonderful family. i think it`s true what jake said about the nomination and maggie, and just not because they had been together in "the dark knight".
i see aaron eckhart did show up with a woman at a pre-oscar party. don`t know if he`s gay or straight but some media did spin he was holding hands with a new beautiful woman after the split with molly sims(aaron was the photograf who took molly`s new professional jeawerly-photos. he was rumored to break up with her on the phone without even being photographed together because she simply said he was her boyfriend...hmmm,pr?).well...that beautiful woman he was with, he at least has known her for over three years. guess a good friend he takes to avoid the pressiaure, straight or not.

i guess jake feels a little like "malcolm in the middle". think he would have chosen not to be if he could have his dreams fulfilled.
we all want that, but most of them usually just remain dreams.
i think jake again is still in job-priority.i don`t think he will come out anytime soon!!! i just hope if/when he doe`s, it`ll feel like he`s experienced most of what he could gain by that. what that is, is up to him,and i guess it should be, even though i don`t agree.

I can't believe you actually did it PG! LOL! And you didn't even wait until after St. Patrick's was over to change.

NG, I was so thrilled to see NPH's number on the Oscars; loved the "joke" that it just wouldn't be an awards show without him. And while NPH was never going for the kind of work Jake is, he's gotten more work since he came out than when he was in. And indie comedy, a children's movie! I can't remember his name, but there was that story in the last year or so about someone who used to be on tv doing voice work for Disney movies who was afraid to come out while working, even though you never saw him, and here's NPH in the lead, live, not animated, of a children's movie.

norwegian girl said...

destiny, i love that you loved NPH too:D
I think neil is much more relaxed now. he knows he has gained a lot professionally, and private. everything else to come is just a nice day at work(i hope),so he can give he`s very best, while others still don`t agree with him . ..............

norwegian girl said...

neil cares about his fans and what they say about him. i read his twitters. at least he seems genuine:)

destiny said...

Yes, I do think he cares what people think of him personally. One reason why I think he never bearded, he has too much integrity and sense of self-worth to do things like that.

Wow, I did not realize today was such a special day. Wood is a fitting anniversary gift for Toothy and Goose, I'd say. I'm pleased too to hear Ted say Goose will wait for him forever. Sometimes challenges keep a relationship going.

Loved today's song. I thought I'd heard most of Rufus's work, but I missed that one. Really beautiful. I'll play it a few more times. When he did the song for the end of Brokeback I think I listened to it 100 times.

I think the point about NPH is well taken. He has a fearlessness about him now that he did not have before he came out. Jake could use some of that.

The more trailers I see for POP, the less interested in it I am. It just looks like so many other movies that have been done before. Source Code and LAOD are much more to my taste. And the Indy 500. Please. That is so lame. Who came up with that idea.

Jerry said...

*cough*

prairiegirl said...

Wood. LOL.

You know, reading those BV's again because I was not reading Ted way back then. Didn't know him from dirt. But sitting here and reading that --- Ted doesn't really write that way anymore, does he? I mean, he's really got the gingerbread going there with all the slang and fancytalk. And look at the way he writes now. Those are two different styles and two different inner states of being there. I don't think anything Ted has written about Jake/Toothy since I've been here has sounded like that.

And I know some people will say well, that's because he's not enamored about Jake anymore, doesn't like what he's doing (well, who does?) but maybe Ted's style of writing has also evolved. I do not read Ted daily because I don't give a flip about Pattinson and Brangelina but I read what people re-post on here and it just seems like another time when Ted wrote like that in that old vice from 2005.

Don't know where I'm going with that, not anywhere really, just an observation.

prairiegirl said...

And I'm still laughing about PR trying to hand out Sam's Club samples of Jake with Olivia Munn.

I think if PR wants to continue to sell that, then they need to send one of the cubicle cubs out to flea markets to shop for a little spool-backed wooden chair and then off to Priscilla's for a leather whip so Jake can protect himself. 'Cause I know Olivia Munn went home that night, googled Jake Gyllenhaal images and started licking her chops, thinking already of all the ways she could have him for breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and midnight snack.

l. o. l.

Alright, on that note I need to go get ready - go in early again. Work is really a pill right now. Mama is not having any fun whatsoever and us minions are worn out from listening to each other cryin'.

I love Teddy Thompson too. He performed a song or two at one of the Wainwright Holiday concerts I saw a few years back, but I'd love to see a whole show.

I think you're right about Ted's style PG. He's gotten snarkier. I blame it on having to compete with people like Perez, and a younger audience who probably prefers the bitchier style. It could also be that Ted has just gotten more cynical. He's also writing more than he used to, and more immediately, and probably has less time for the word play that I always loved in his old columns.

There's never any guarantees of anything. Ted doesn't live in their house. He doesn't know anymore than anyone else.

But the important thing to me, People mag, is that I believe Jake and Austin are still together at this moment. They're a couple. They're cohabitating. And I believe they're dads.

Nobody knows what's going to happen 24 hrs down the road, let alone a lifetime. Ted is so full of crap sometimes.

You have your opinion and some of us have ours. We have a right to believe what we do.
