Sourced Out

Not only is Jake going to be at SXSW for the premiere of Source Code, he will be participating in a panel discussion along with Michelle and Duncan.

Jake and Michelle Monaghan will be on hand, along with their director Duncan Jones ("Moon"), to discuss the time-twisting and mind-bending "Source Code." The panel, called "Straight From The Source (Code)," will also be the opening night film for this year's SXSW. The heavily-buzzed flick (which also stars Vera Farmiga) is about a man who relives the last eight minutes of another man's life before he perishes in a train explosion; with such a premise, "Source Code" will doubtlessly garner quite a few questions from the movie savvy crowd.

SXSW has a impressive list of movies this year, and it all starts off with Source Code opening the festival on March 11th with it's World Premiere.

Jake may run into another former co-star while in Austin (not just the one from TDAT). Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman will be also one of the many panels and sessions during the 5 day film part of the event, including Catherine Hardwicke’s Directing Workshop, the Ain’t It Cool News 15th Anniversary Panel, The Female Funny: Is it Different for Girls, and Did You Kill Anyone? Reality in War Movies.

Wonder if Jake and Pee Wee will make a bet on if and when Nailed ever comes out. The better bet is they both do "Deep in the Heart of Texas" (Come on Jakey - you know you want to )

Now if it was Austin and Pee Wee it would be Tequila. Not just for the drink, or the dancing but for the shoes.

Jake talking talking football and festival back in September 2006 for UT Football/Mack Brown's page.

Is this your first trip to Austin, and what are your thoughts? No, I've been here before. It's great. I've just spent a very short time here, I've spent one day here, and I had to come back. What I experienced when I came here last time, it was really, really hot, but the school is great, and from every person I've run into all over the country, when I've said to I've been to Austin, if they've been here, they say, 'You have to go there, it's the best city in the world.' I've heard everybody say that about Austin, so this trip is long overdue.

How much of a college football fan are you?

I'm a pretty big fan. I'm not a huge college football fan, but I watch a lot of the big games. I have to say I'm a little biased to basketball, but I love all sports. I loved the Rose Bowl last year. It was unbelievable. I've seen it about six times. (Hmmm wonder who wanted to watch that six times... a Longhorn fan?)

You're from L.A. Who were you rooting for?
I can say that I'm definitely not rooting for Ohio State (laughing). All I can say is that every play that I saw in that game was just electric. It was extraordinary from both sides. To me, at a certain point, it was like they both really did win, and then when Texas won, Texas won, but they both were winning the whole time. It was an amazing game. If I spend more time in Austin, I'll become a Texas fan.

Guess he did and he has.

The Austin movie scene is really growing. What are your thoughts on that?

I know about the festival, which really is picking up. I think, creatively, it's an amazing city. I have friends who are filmmakers who are here and are working on documentaries, and who, through The University, have been making documentaries and making films and writing screenplays. It's amazing here. There seems to be a real emphasis on sports here and a real emphasis on the creative, which I think is not like many places. There are a lot of filmmakers and actors that live here, and they love it.
Is the independent film/documentary industry one that you would like to participate in? That's definitely what I love the most. The first types of film that were casting me were independent films, and I believe that's where real cutting edge, real interesting work is being done. I think it's where faults and the real side of what's human, which is difficulty and struggle, is shown more than in big Hollywood films. I think it's a real struggle to make films that show imperfection when people are spending a lot of money. Also, it's just nice because it's not as big of a risk. There are certain movies I've made for nothing, and there's a huge profit side to it if it becomes something people see. To me, it's a more interesting world, but I also do big films.

A horrible crime was committed against a CBS news correspondent, Lara Logan.

I think the American reporters need to pull out of there - is it worth getting beaten like that? Anderson Cooper was beaten up as well.

I don't need to see the news there if it means someone gets assaulted in the process.

Is that a wrong attitude, do you guys think? I ask that honestly or is it horribly naive? Is the news that important that these reporters need to be in such horrible harm's way?

Unfortunately bad things happen to reporters all the time, just usually non-Americans so you don't hear about it.

I feel very strongly about the need for news coverage, especially in places where they try to intimidate reporters. Otherwise the story doesn't get out. I don't think the journalists working in Egypt expected that kind of trouble--don't know about what happened to Lara, but a lot of the earlier attacks, like the one on Anderson, were believed to have been the work of thugs hired by the government.

It is tragic what did happen to Logan, who is CBS' top Foreign Correspondent.

(CBSNews)
On Friday, Feb. 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a "60 Minutes" story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning."

After being hospitalized briefly she is recovering at home in Washington DC. President Obama called Logan to express his concern.

According to Reporters Without Borders, five reporters have already been killed in 2011, and 152 are imprisoned. Since 1992, 850 reporters have been killed around the world.

How terrifying to have been caught in that mob.

And now did you guys see where Borders has filed bankruptcy? You could see that one coming.

I love going into Borders stores at night. It's a great place to people watch and hang with. It's quiet. It's relaxing. It's fun to just look at books, cd's and dvd's. I can spend a couple of hours in one easily.

But these e-readers, Kindles, etc. have totally changed everything. Now, a newspaper I can read online. There's something to be said for holding and reading a children's book with its pictures and everything. I just don't know that you would get the same impact with a Kindle.

A recipe would be cool to look at on a Kindle. But there's so much to be said for browsing through an actual cookbook.

It's pretty sad about Borders. Electronics are good. You cannot beat an Ipod or a laptop. But they're also bad because they're doing away with so much and they're taking away jobs.

**sigh**.

You never think of a reporter's job being so dangerous but it can be apparently. Weathermen of course can run into trouble.

I guess it depends on what the story is that they're telling on - how crucial it is. I sure hate to think of them being in danger or scared for their lives.

Well, guess it's time to hit the ol' hay. What a long week!

Sad about Borders, but I must admit it is so much easier to find what you are looking for on amazon.com. Wandering around Borders trying to decide what category they classify something as, particularly music, is a nuisance. And now I can even get a book downloaded to my iphone in seconds.

I think Frys will not be too far behind or at least have a tough go of competing. Why? My husband needed a new drive for the computer. He looked on line and decided what he wanted but went to Frys because he wanted it right away. They only had an older version in stock. He walked over to their lounge area, pulled up amazon. com on his iphone and ordered it. It arrived at our doorstep 6:OOpm the following day. How do you compete against that.

Wasn't Borders where we saw the guys shopping? Or was that Barnes & Noble?

Yes it was Borders, where we saw the guys doing a little book shopping and Jake doing a lot of grinning.

I recall reading that Borders was on the bankrupt prediction list for 2011. So is Office Depot. Borders is based in Portland but is such a huge chain now... I am a "member" but I rarely shop there. I think the Nook will keep Barnes & Noble from going under. I hope. That's one of my "third places."

Special - you called the gender of Natalie Portman's baby, and so did I! Boy! My prediction was honestly based on how tired and kind of dull-skinned she looked when she first announced, which was probably at 4 or 5 months. What about you?

It was in her face for me. There is something that happens when women are caring boys that changes their appearance during the pregnancy - at least I think so. I always think their features are less refined and feminine during pregnancies with boys, it may be due to the increase in testosterone.

Hmmmm Jake was seen out in LA today.
Guess somebody got back to LA without anyone seeing him. Makes you wonder what day that was? Like maybe last weekend?

Guess it is a sign that Austin must be back in NC if Jake is venturing out and about.

Funny how that works Special.

I really love bookstores and music stores, and they just keep disappearing. :-( For me there is no substitute for browsing the aisles of a bricks and mortar store. Now I have to wait until I visit family in Colorado, where they still have a great independent music store, to buy most of my cds.

I had heard Borders was in big trouble. The one that I love to go to is a one of the large stores which is more likely to close in the next couple weeks. I love roaming around the store. I have gotten so many coupons and discounts there.

It is so obvious that Jake and Austin were together for Valentines's Day. I think that is great.

Grow up Tom you are in your mid fifties. You know good and well that they were not in the same state on VD, FB/tweet sightings place Jake in Park Slope over the weekend sightings that included Ramona and Maggie and a solo sighting of him early Monday.

Austin flew back to NC on VD, Sophia did on Sunday due to filming which I assume was the reason he flew back also he finished editing. He arrived in NC on VD , tweeter saw him at the airport there arriving.

It's obvious they did not spend that manufactured het holiday together because it's lame and silly. What two 30 year olds care about that holiday? And more to the point Tom, how can you, a middle-aged gay man continue to help push the sterotype that all gay men act like 12 year old girls, what do you think they did? exchange homemade VD cards? How embarrassing.

I can understand SK and the other women that post here having that vision of gay men but you have no excuse.

It's a BS holiday and I would think that they would give 2 shits about it.

Sk and her pals saw the Jake in P. Slope sightings like everyone else has, they are just playing dumb.

And looooooking good. Looking good for his man.
