Back with Style

When Jake comes back to the Red Carpet he makes a comeback. And he didn't need anyone with him to do it.
Looking devastatingly handsome Jake went to the top of everyone's best dressed list in a classic custom made Burberry tuxedo and a pair of handcrafted Ferragamo Tramezza black leather shoes. Totally Old Hollywood. And total perfection.

The pin tucked formal shirt with a smaller collar coupled with narrowed lapel of the his tuxedo complete with crisp pocket square and small retro inspired handtied four in one tie knocked it off the charts for everyone. We know Esquire loved it and sure that one person in particular probably did too, since he loves to wear the vintage look for himself.

Like in a little less formal way for like a pre-Oscar party. Or premiere?
Speaking of parties. Jake was asked who he was hanging with at the big bash the night before and said a friend, and also said Jamie Foxx.

Then we find out about Jake introducing his co presenter Rachel McAdams to a friend in the lobby of the Kodak Theater as the mother of his child.

Lots a friends or just one very important one?

You know Jake likes to talking about friends like here grinning when Regis and Kelly asked what he did the night before way back in 2007. Maybe a friendly walk?

Or bringing up how he and a friend were woken up by the fire at Manka's on David Letterman.

Funny you never see them, maybe they are a Baker's secret. (and not talking this kind but sure few of these in the house too just in a different room)

Jake was so proud of Maggie. Great to see them on sharing it and make a moment for both of them to remember.
Ever the helpful presenter.
When 6' looks short.

I've had a crazy weekend, so lots to digest.

Jake looked great last night, none of that ackwardness we saw last time he was at the Oscars.

It does look like Austin in that picture, but why didn't Ted say anything if it was?

Well, Sean Hayes, that's no surprise. It's always nice to see someone come out, but I can't believe people were making a fuss about, and no way is he a major star. Is that who Ted was referring to? That doesn't make sense either, but no way Jake comes out before PoP.

You know who else I thought looked great, Colin Farrell. I just saw Crazy Heart over the weekend, and until I saw it didn't realize he was in it. He was good in it too. Jeff and Maggie were really good too. Wasn't so crazy about the movie itself, it just felt a bit static to me.

I know Maggie often gets a lot of negative comments about her looks (and I generally do not like the clothes she wears), but I thought she was very pretty in the movie, and I think she has been looking really good lately in real life too. I agree London, the new hairstyle she has is very flattering. I also can believe she may have had some work done because there is just something slightly different.

State senator says he's gay after DUI arrest

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Republican state Sen. Roy Ashburn of Bakersfield says he is gay.

The conservative lawmaker came out Monday on KERN radio in Bakersfield, saying he felt compelled to address rumors that he had visited a gay nightclub near the Capitol before his arrest last week for driving under the influence.

The 55-year-old father of four says he broke the law, putting people at risk, so he owes the public an explanation.

Ashburn has consistently voted against gay rights measures since he was elected to the state Assembly in 1996.

He has said those votes reflected the way constituents in his district wanted him to vote.

Jake and Rachel has a couple of minutes on Oprah's After Oscars Special, when decorator, designer, businessman and special Oprah correspondent Nate Berkus, caught with them backstage.

Jake said he was nervous for Rachel and her dress and if she fell he wouldn't catch her. Of course Nate got the mike cord caught up in her dress and yelled for Jake.

But Jake meeting Nate. That's one blue eye showdown.

Jake almost shit himself when he was asked about Heath. He basically said nothing. Man has he been told not to touch that subject with a ten foot pole. I just dont get it.

Florida Tom said...

When I listened to that video I was praying that I would hear something that was heartfelt. Jake is either cold or so emotional he cant talk about Heath. I cant believe that no one has asked him that question till last night. He certainly wasnt prepared. When I look at Jake I still cant see the person I used to love. He could have gone a long way by just answering that question in a sweet and heartfelt way. Again I just dont get it.

prairiegirl said...

Tom, I wouldn't get down on Jake over this and I hope to Pete, people don't make alot more out of this than is there.

Number one, that Nate guy took a selfish opportunity to get a quote out of Jake on Heath. He clearly did catch him off guard and that was not a good thing that guy did. He did it to get a quote out of Jake and Heath had absolutely nothing to do with that whole moment.

Number two, I feel bad for Jake over that. He even told that guy that he was caught off guard by the question and I think that Nate guy realized he had taken advantage. Not classy at all.

But number three, Jake recovered nicely and he got over it.

As everyone needs to do. For gosh sakes, let it go and let Heath rest in peace and let. it. go.

Let it go.

The man is gone and yes, Jake & Heath shared a wonderful experience together making that film. But to drone on and on about it is living in the past. Heck, my dad passed away just last fall and I still have moments, but I do not keep remembering things and making myself sad. To do that is to stop living.

There is a time for every season.

prairiegirl said...

I thought it was funny that Jake was carrying Rachel's purse.

What the heck? She can't carry her own purse? If you can't carry your own clutch because you have to hold onto your gown, there's something wrong with the decision to wear that dress. What on earth did she do when she had to use the bathroom? That's what I want to know now.

Wow said...

You know what PG? That's fine for you. But other's don't feel the same way; you can only speak for yourself. Keeping a little corner of your heart for Heath is not living in the past. I think Nate was sincere in asking, you could see it in his eyes. He I felt in no way wanted to take advantage of the situation? What would be in it for him? He's not a cut-throat journalist; he's an artist and designer. I believe he asked it in all sincerity, and Jake did his best to answer a painful question.

Florida Tom said...

I disaggree respectfully PG. The guy had every right to ask that question. Maybe he also is wondering why jake hasnt answered it. It sounded like he had thought about asking Jake that question. I bet a lot of people have. Jake still has no answer. Again I am hoping it is because he would get too emotional. It will be another time he is answered that question and I hope he lets us see whats he feels in side. For me I would just love to see it. It would help me understand what kind of man Jake is
more than I do now.

Special K said...

Neither Jake or Maggie for that matter have talked about Heath's death. Maggie focused more on working with him.

I do think that is one thing that Jake does want to keep for himself. There is so much that people expect of stars to share, sometimes there are things that they just want to keep for themselves. Their memories, their loss. It's the same for us, we have things we keep for ourselves, and share those closest to us. Most of us don't tell the entire office or a busload of people. We chose to share our feelings with who we chose, and sometimes we forget that celebrities are just like us in that sense, and there are things they want to keep for themselves and I can respect that.

There are too many celebrities who rush out after a tragedy or death to say or even something, and it not really about the loss or the sentiment but another opportunity for them to get exposure. That's what I find more disrespectful.

Wow said...

We all lose people we love. That is one of the toughest parts of life. Our feelings about those losses are personal. Maybe I have no right to expect Jake to answer that question but my heart just wants him to. For me it is connected with reeke. A dirty little plot filled with lies. Hard to wash off those stains if you care about somebody. I am glad he is single. I have no clue what is next for him. I just hope he is true to himself and not some HW product forever.

PG you have every right to express your feelings. I for one respect them. I hope you know that. We may just see things a little different on this one. No biggie.

Special K said...

I do think that Nate was not aware that Jake hasn't spoken about Heath, when he asked the question. And think he knew as soon as saw Jake's reaction that he crossed the like big time. It was a sucker punch kind of question. Jake seemed to handle it a whole lot better than I would have if someone threw something like that.

Florida Tom said...

And I never get tired of hearing what you have to say PG ever. I love hearing everyone express their thoughts here. It is awesome.

destiny said...

PG has every right to say what she wants, just like everyone else. Just because you don't like what she said is no reason to attack her personally or start with the same old shit about "you don't run the blog." Duh, we all know that.

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. I do think Jake was caught waaay off guard, and it was probably not the best time to ask the question.

On the other hand, I get the sense Jake has probably taken that question off the table when doing interviews. He doesn't have to give a deeply personal answer if he doesn't want to, but I am still bothered by his running away from talking about Heath at all. Something about it just feels wrong to me, as if there is more to it than just wanting to keep some things private. Don't know what it is, but I can't help but think he wants to avoid any talk of BBM too.

I also I don't like the fact that celebs can control what questions get asked, so I'm all for fearless questioning, just wish maybe it had been under different circumstances. If people don't want to answer questions, they don't have to.

I don't think Nate asked Jake about Heath to get a quote or take advantage. As said above, he isn't a journalist... he didn't have anything to gain to further his career by asking that question, since his career has nothing to do with getting a good quote. I think he was sincere when he said he was just thinking about it and the question was out of his mouth before he realized the implications of it.

I also don't think Jake was cold or unfeeling when he answered. It was pretty obvious he was caught offguard and didn't know how to respond. I think Jake does have a "No Heath questions" clause when it comes to doing press but the red carpet is another ballgame, since his handlers don't get to run the show. I don't think Jake avoids Heath questions because he doesn't care about what he shared with Heath. If that were the case then his actions would be the opposite and he would be milking his connection with Heath for all the PR it would get him.

He is a young guy and it's possibly Heath is the first real loss he's suffered in his life, especially someone close to his age and to go so suddenly. I think if he had replied with something "sweet" and the same words every other actor has said (Heath was great, so talented, what a loss, etc) it would have rang false. Jake's reaction and loss of words spoke volumes more than a polished answer would have.

It's been well over two years since Heath's death. I think the shock has passed and Jake can answer a question once in awhile about someone with whom he will always (whether he likes it or not) be linked to due to their starring in a groundbreaking iconic film.

Matt Damon recently spoke candidly and eloquently about working with Heath and what a loss it is for those who knew and loved him. It's been over two years--why can't Jake finally speak about it?

prairiegirl said...

Well, shows what I know about some people. I was totally unaware of who this Nate guy was. Hey, I don't watch Oprah, sorry. And obviously, he learned a tough lesson there in that situation. I was going on what I have seen from journalists but as has been pointed out to me, he's not exactly a real journalist so my bad in my lack of knowledge there.

And while I'm totally aware that I'm a black sheep here and my opinions & manner of blogging are a real annoyance to some people, all I can say is, well....too bad. Scroll by and ignore it.

I will call things as I see them and no, no one has to agree with it or even read it; I could care less what you do with it. I'm not sugarcoating things; never have. I'm not a Mary Poppins so get over it.

I would rather focus on how great Jake looked & sounded last night. I think it's great cause to celebrate & be happy about.

Which I'm going to do. And some can obssess about how big a bully I am or how I seem to think I run the blog or how just perfectly awful of a person I am. Don't let it invade your sleep is all I can say. Try to get some rest.

LOL, Nate didn't get the memo. And why would he? He's a designer, not an interviewer or a journalist. Which brings an interesting question on why it was him and not any other journalists in over two years to ask Jake about Heath. IMO there IS a no-Heath-questions-to-Jake memo, written or not written, out there. It also brings up the topic of BT: if there's no questions allowed about a deceased coworker - and everyone has abided by those rules for over two years - then a no-questions rule would certainly exist for a living child.

Just look at the case of that California State Senator - everyone in the newspapers and TV fields were aware of him being gay - he had already been reported to them as gay and hypocritical by regular people but no one wanted to print the truth. Time and time again, no one in the media wanted to ask questions and expose the truth. It took a DUI to do it. So if no one is asking Jake about Heath and BT, it's because, IMO, they have no guts. Jake is a big boy. Two years is enough time to protect his fragile little heart against being asked a question about a dead coworker. Heath wasn't killed in Columbine, Fort Hood or 9/11. It's time for Jake, and these people who call themselves journalists, to face the truth, and not behave as though they are above asking and answering benign questions.

Uh, forgot to put your name on that, anon. You made a good point.

I don't know. It's just not important to me now. Because I admit, and if you've been around here for the past 2 1/2 years, everyone knows that I was one of the loudest bongers around hollering for Jake to say something. But I'm not anymore.

He very well may say something in an autobiography 20 years from now but I don't need to hear it at this point. Jake's living his life and that part is over now. At least that is the way I see it.

And Tommy boy, you know that we're good. Uh....but maybe we better not discuss it on the phone. Hot Topic!!!! Hot button!! lol. Can't discuss without coming to blows over the phone. Hey, at least you still hung with me on the phone when I gave you that last news, right? lol. We're still buds. I respect your opinion. We just disagree. As long as I know who I'm talking to and we can agree that we disagree? I'm absolutely fine.

And by the way, Nate is no stranger to tragic loss himself. His lost his bf in the Asian tsunami. I think Nate, in asking a question to Jake about Heath, was in a way acting as a stand-in for what much of the moviegoing public would like to ask Jake--even two years later (particularly because Jake has never said anything). It's been over two years--time for Jake to act like an adult. Why is it okay for Matt Damon to speak freely and candidly about Heath and not Jake? Please.

Well, Nate asked Jake if he felt Heath's presence at the event, which is an odd question to ask. So it would have been difficult to answer just for that. And it was a celebratory event so as Nate himself said, it brought the mood down. I do want Jake to be asked about Heath, and to talk about him, but I don't think the specific question asked was the best way to go about it.

I went over to Gossip Boy and saw this, wondered if it was about Jake. "This usually chipper actor was not his usual self last night. As he was sent here and there to talk and paint on a happy face, he was actually taken aside and told that he better sell his new movie and act like he is Mr. Happy. The poor actor was having a bad week and it was written all over his face. Though, once he got some drinks from George Clooney's flask, he seemed to be in a better mood." Despite being happy for Maggie and smiling when Jake was with her, he seemed pensive and distracted in some shots, was seen with Clooney, and in an earlier paragraph, Gossip Boy said that it was observed that Jake was not in the best of moods. Jake also has a movie to sell.

Looking at the interview with Seacrest you can see him laughing and you can see the real pride he had speaking about his sister.

The video of Jake and Maggie together you can see again the genuine pride he had when Maggie stepped up.

Caught the The Insider tonight and Jake was have a great time being a big flirt with Lara Spencer and Samantha Harris. Definitely nothing forced.

I think he had to get back in the swing of things again and once he got back into the circus of all of those reporters asking you to read the script they have for thei channel or say what you favorite snack food is, he settle back into it all.

If it is heartless of me to condemn Jake, then so be it. Not the first time or the last time I'm going to do it.

I think it was heartless of him to do what he did. And yeah, I feel pretty comfortable I do know what happened. Jake had a regular pap schedule to keep with Reeke, and come hell or high water, it was written in the contract, so they were going to do it, especially with Jake away filming Brothers, making it more difficult to squeeze in the Reeking.

He could have put his foot down and said, No, this is a bad time, but either he didn't, or he caved when Reese insisted he stick to the contract.

I also feel like it was a huge slap in the face to his BBM fans, especially gay fans disgusted already with the homophobic bearding. To go out and beard at a time like that to me was incredibly disrespectful of everything BBM stood for. By doing what he did for me he was saying nothing mattered more than his bearding, and in turn to me that was the equivalent of flipping his finger at Heath and BBM.

I'll be the first to admit my feelings may not be entirely rational, and are probably overly harsh. But that's the way I feel, and the passage of time hasn't helped on that one. I think there are times when you have to put heart over mind. Jake spent the last three years ignoring his heart, even when it came to something as devastating as Heath's death.

destiny said...

That whole scandal with the closeted politician getting caught , and then trying to excuse his anti-gay votes by saying "I voted how my constituents wanted--well, to me I don't think it is much different than actors who beard and then tell themselves, I'm doing it because no one will accept a gay actor. Of course the politician does more immediate harm, but actors like Jake have done a lot of harm too.

Yes, people should be forgiven, and given a chance to change and do the right thing. But for me he will always be tarnished by the bearding.

Not that I think that is really why he voted the way he did. I think he voted that way because he was self-loathing, thought he could fight the gay in himself by restricting rights for anyone with gay tendencies, and thought he wouldn't be found out if he voted as if he wasn't gay.

Some of the same reasons people beard. No one who truly respects themselves or is 100% accepting of their homosexuality would beard.

I'll be the first to admit my feelings may not be entirely rational, and are probably overly harsh. But that's the way I feel, and the passage of time hasn't helped on that one.

You are not the only one.

^^ITA, and what we were being asked to swallow was that his new relationship with Reese and her brats was the most important thing, and it was she who was helping him cope with the loss. Blech. Now that she has completely disappeared from his life with nary a backward glance, it rings even more false than it did then. I agree with the above poster too about why Nate asked.

The reason Nate asked the question was based on the tradition of the Oscars. Lats years winter of the Best Supporting Actor normally returns to present the award to the winner of the Best Suppporting Actress Award that night. So in a sense the question was based on the interviewer missing Heath being there that night. It was an appropriate time to ask the question.

I gotta say Maggie is looking great. She is dressing so much more sexy and hip. She really looked hot at the Oscars. I also saw her on Regis and Kelly last week and she looked great in a pants suit she wore. She has def made some changes in her style and looks and it has worked.

Uh oh Tom's switching.

No way. She just looks really pretty.

Got to say the more I look at that picture from the pre Oscar party the more I think it is Austin. That is def the same outfit in the other picture. Damnnnnnnnnnnnn.

from Ted today "Dear Ted:
In one of your recent posts, you commented, "remember, T.Swift never rocked the purity ring like those JoBros did. She's not a fake, which, in our book, really makes you sexy." Are all of the purity ring wearers in Hollywood fake, or do some of them actually keep their promises?
—Cea

Dear Gullible:
I believe Jake Gyllenhaal has put his back on, but, he's pretty much the exception.

Dear Ted:
With One Tree Hill being on the bubble of cancellation, do you think the same is true for Sophia and Austin? How long do you think they'll last if OTH gets the axe?
—Alittlebliss

Dear Good Question:
Hmm. How long did it take for Sophia's BFF Danneel Harris to tell me she's so getting married to Jensen Ackles? About the same time

I think the first one is a reference to Jake not being willing to beard anymore. The second is self explanatory. A showmance for the show only.

A purity ring is the symbol of a commitment between one person, male or female, and God, or another person. This can be done by anyone who wants to change the path they are on, to create a new road for themselves.

The questions are in the same order that Ted posted them (one after the other):
1) Jake
2) Austin
3) Toothy-coming out/honesty

Dear Ted:
So the "big coming out" on the cover of The Advocate is Sean Hayes, like seriously? God, even my grandma, who has no clue about who Madonna is, already knew he was gay. It's great for him, but if that's what some HW gay journalists are considering as a major revelation, it only unfortunately proves that there's still a looong way until any gay A-lister (Toothy Tile, I'm looking at you) will be comfortable to officially be proud of who they are and who they love, and that's really sad and disappointing. But I guess one tiny little baby step after the other is better than nothing.

Dear You Maybe Gotta Point:
I still don't think we should keep settling for only small-screen stars to do our same-sex battling for us. It's all very second-class citizen stuff, really. We should demand the big leaguers be honest with us, too.

Bitch Back!

Tom, I had forgotten about the tradition of the previous year's BSA winner presenting. It's not such a far-fetched question then. Maybe it was a little of both, Nate seemed so sincere in asking. He's very cute too.

Maggie is looking like a goddess in that dancing picture. She looks awesome lately.

I kind of lost sight of that fact Tom, but you're right, so it does make the question a much more natural one, and I take it back about maybe there was a better time to ask. I do think Jake got a bit used to living in a Reeke bubble and not having to talk about anything he didn't want to. Good for Nate for treating him like an adult and not a child.

Jake of course is free to do whatever the heck he wants, never said he wasn't. Doesn't mean I have to sit here and throw rose petals at him and be an apologist for everything he does.

No, YOU don't

Does not mean you have to take relentless stabs at him and ridicule him at every cost just because you are not Satisfied with (HIS) decisions.

Nor do others have be silent about calling you out on your selfish motives towards him either.

And they are Selfish!

Jake is a public figures; people have the right to talk about him and say whatever they want. You do realize that, don't you? And if you don't, then you shouldn't be here or on any other blog about a celebrity.

Back from lunch!!! Yogurt (Key Lime) and popcorn. Rather dry popcorn. It's the Pop Weaver stuff, from Wally World. Not the best but oh well.

Spent my lunch hour writing - I am on an inspired roll right now.

You know, the more I look at these pictures, I just wanted to reiterate how great Jake looks. And how mature his looks have gotten.

He definitely is no longer that hot young guy from 5 years ago. He's a hot man!! lol. A domesticated, settled, committed man. And dad. And he looks like it.

Can you imagine having a dad who looks like that?

Ruby by Kenny Rogers is playing. I haven't heard that in ages. I love that song. Don't take your love to town.

What in the heck does that mean anyway? Take your love to town? why? To where?

Well, back to the salt mines. It's raining here and I'm glad my car is getting a dose of it. It is filthy. Still.

^^ thanks for that information.

You do know that People, including celebrities have a right, not a privlege, to live their lives the way they want to. Even if they make the same mistakes that non-celebrities make every day. This also includes not bowing down to any fan or so-called fans wishes or request so that the fan can feel all gusshy inside.

Life passes in a flash it seems, and it seems we only get one chance. Live and Let live is a good motto to live by don't you think?
This includes Jake's life too.
