After yesterday's discussion, I felt the need to ask this question. We all have our own ideas about Jake and Austin's privacy and what topics should or should not be discussed here. Topics that might make one person uncomfortable might not bother someone else. Some might feel that there are no topics that should be off limits.
The question here is which topics do you think are likely to be problematic to discuss, not which topics should never be discussed. There could be times when we all may feel it is appropriate to discuss a topic that normally makes us uneasy. What I'm trying to get to here is a discussion of which topics in particular make people a bit queasy. Please feel free to add topics that I may have left out in the comments. Note that this poll is MULTIPLE CHOICE.

Its the context of the discussion. Mom Dad Maggie Peter are all public figures, even Uncle Anders and his wife are because of their newspaper jobs, but is talking private things that bothers me. His parents relationship -- using his grandmother's passing as an way of caling Jake on his bearding, that's were I have problems.
We have done a good job keep Chris discussion limited to when Chris and Jake are hanging out and their newest possible business venture. I think Chris topic is a great example of balance and good judgment from OMG'ers.
Things like addresses, flight numbers, things like that -- NO WAY. Way too much, that is a security issue for not only Jake but everyone around him.
So much has different from a year ago. Last year, people were appalled that someone that someone would snap a picture of Jake sleeping on the train after Cannes and post it. Cries of invasion of privacy. Something has definitely shifted in Jake fandom. I can't figure out what caused the change, Heath's passing? Jaustin in the fall? The Jeese? Any ideas?

NETB, the Black Angels record is interesting. Some of the songs are just really long and to me they kind of collapse under their own weight. If you can just lose yourself in it and not have a need for structure in all the songs, you will love this record.
For me, demographic info is off limits. I'm not terribly comfortable with family talk either. I'd like to hear from some people who think anything findable is acceptable. Part of me sort of agrees with that position, even though there is info that makes me uncomfortable. I will say that Spesh and I have gotten some info that we have not posted because it felt like a violation of privacy. It was mostly demographic type stuff.

I feel demographic information should only be discussed on broad terms but like iv'e said before..that's the bad part about opening that door in the first place (love nest/house pics/location). I think stuff like that is too personal to be revealed at all - even by the celebrity themselves. IMO it just draws unneccessary attention to your private life. I'm sure some people probably feel nothings off limits now.

I think that very specific demographic information (e.g., a house number) shouldn't be published because of security issues, but even then I think there are exceptions, like the love nest that was splashed all over the internet. If you put something out there, you can't turn around and scream "you're invading my privacy."
IMO just about anything goes with Jake at this point for me, and yes, I think Reeke changed that. If you're going to use your personal life to this degree, be it real or fake, to promote yourself, then I think people are entitled to talk about your personal life. After all, at least in the tabloids, he's used Chris, family and those anonymous "friends" to tout Reeke, not to mention "he's such a family man and he's ready to have one of his own."
In short, I think it is fair game to talk about how things we find out about his private life don't jive with the crap they're trying to feed us because it is Jake who put this all into play.

Destiny, how do you know what Jake has done to "use" Chris or anyone else? You really think it is okay to jeopardize his life by posting personal address and other very personal info? Jake wasn't the one who posted about Reese's new house and has never divulged where his house is. The conversation yesterday about Jake's supposed reaction to his grandmother's death was disgusting and vulgar. When it goes to that level of some posters accusing him of not caring about his own grandmother it goes way beyond invasive. Did you see any tabloid stories about her passing, no. All of the tab stuff is clearly about Reese and most of it is probably made up by them anyway without pr imput.

I said I was against posting personal addresses, but if you splash pictures all over the tabloids and internet in such a way that enables people to locate an address, you have no one but yourself to blame. Jake has been very careful to not do that with his own house, so no, I don't think his address should be fair game.
And you can't blame this all on Reese. If Jake didn't want to go along with this all he'd have to do is stop the regular pap sessions and have his pr announce that he and Reese are just friends, nothing more. The tabloids know they are free to make this stuff up because PR just winks at them when they do it.
I agree with bad seed, Destiny, very well put. And I'd have to agree with everything you've said, too. Jake and Reese have been demonstrating for months now that the line between fodder for the public and "too much" is practically threadbare. I never thought they'd involve Reese's children and that went out the window long ago. All bets have been off for me for ages now. At this point I'd draw the line at phone numbers (what's left?) and anything that compromises the safety of the kids (and these are things we might hear from so-called insiders, not the media - one would hope!)
I would be wary when it comes to Austin's family as well, people who are not public figures.

I agree no demographic info. I am a little shaky on the family stuff but Jake does bring them into the picture by allowing their names to be used when it comes to reeke. I think what is thrown out there is up for debate. We need to be careful what we assume though. We dont know what is going on in Jakes private life. The show that we see though is fair game whether Jake likes it or not.
I will admit I dont know Jake at all. The problem I have with him is that it seems like he has become a completely different person and I really dont like what I see. Is he is a liar or a phony? Right now I would have to say yes.
You're right bltb, I forgot about the whole thing with the kids, that was huge turning point for me in terms of the privacy argument. I also agree about Austin's family.
Jake is a public figure. Reese is a public figure. Austin, Maggie and Peter are also public figures. They get the paycheck, the perks and the scrutiny that comes with it.
Don't wish for your life to be fodder for blogs and discussion threads? Either don't choose a profession that lives or dies by the amount of generatable publicity, or stop putting your private life on the cover of OK et al to promote your profession.
There are literally thousands of actors in the business that have managed a successful career without gossiping noses pressed constantly to their bedroom window. Jake and Reese through PR machinations crossed the privacy line a long time ago, and truly deserve the monster they have knowningly created for themselves. And are still feeding daily.
That being said, the death of family not associated with the business shouldn't be bashing ammunition.
I want to clarify something I just said. In Jake's real life he may not be a liar or a phony. I have no clue. But if you want to make a lot of money in HW you need to be a liar and a phony. Its all a f ing show. If you want to be true to yourself you need to get the hell out of HW. Right now I dont think that is what Jake wants to do.

I think Jake has lost a tremendous amount of confidence in his abilities. Not sure why but he may have thrown his chance at greatness away. He may make a lot of money but I now believe his career will be short lived.

There is a big difference between being in the closet and keeping your private life private and being in the closet while actively promoting a fake, heterosexual relationship.
The thing is how do you know Jake is in the closet and hiding a relationship? I love Jake and Austin but I don't presume to know anything about them. And I don't think it is fair to blame Jake for everything and make up wild accusations that may have no basis in truth.

This is a tough issue to deal with. The reality is that anything and everything shows up via the internet. Not so much from the posted info, but from people adding comments. I usually read comments on other sites when they are Jake items, so the information is there for all to see. That said, I do use discretion re what I pass on when commenting on OMG or WFT2. Actually, lately I am just commenting at OMG. Because they are celebrities, in the public eye, paid richly for it, I do think having your business splashed all over hell and back is part of the job. You take the good with the bad. Jake, in particular, knew what he was getting himself into by choosing this career. Bottomline, I say anything can be brought up, but it is up to the group's mood to decide whether to discuss the item or not.
A lot of things are off-limits for me personally but I will agree with people who express what I think and can't say. I don't think that's very brave of me, but there it is.
There are things I know I have never put on the net and won't.
Austin deserves the most protection IMO because he didn't create the situation. I agree with Tom that the media creation, Reeke, doesn't, because it's designed to attract speculation. I feel sorry for the kids, especially the little girl, and I quite like Ryan.

Thank you Destiny. That is what I meant to say. My anger when I am presented with reeke makes me use words like liar and phony. Those words may make some Jake fans uncomfortable. I am not apologising for using them and probably will again. But you say it much more elegantly.
I want everyone to know a year ago I was out to none of my friends at work. I never faked a relationship but wasn't comfortable being out. This year I am out with two of my best friends at work and am planning to tell two other co workers that I am fond of the truth when the opportunity presents itself. We dont talk too much about each others personal life at work so I think it would be weird to just blurt out I AM GAY. But what I have learned first at WFT and now OMG is that it is soooo important to be honest and never feel like you need to lie about you are. I am grateful to the friends I have made on this blog. I now consider them not only my friends but my heros.

I know Spesh responded to this in the previous thread, but I felt I needed to add my .02 as well. Spesh and I do feel responsible for what is posted on this board. However, we want both a civil board and to allow people to talk freely without moderation and without fear of being censored. We are not able to watch the blog 24/7 (nor do we want to!) and do not want to moderate comments. This leaves us to trust those who come here to be civil and not have a hate-filled board. For the most part I think we do a good job. Most here are not invested in hatemongering and namecalling. We want to have good time while calling things out as we see them. If someone makes a comment that you find objectionable, say something. I think most of the time this is what happens. The reality is, this community cannot rely solely on Spesh and I to police it. We are not able to. I think it's good that other people do jump in and stand up for the kind of community they want to have here. Spesh and I appreciate it very much.
Just viewed the new pics on IHJ. Does anyone else find the fact that those jeans are button or snap fly rather than zipper incredibly hot. I can see Austin opening one button at a time. They are falling off of him though. Jake's lost his nice butt from too much exercise.

IMO, actively promoting a fake, heterosexual relationship constitutes an advertisement of a Hollywood brand name (or product) called Jake Gyllenhaal. Like all advertisements making false claims, the intent is to create wealth at the cost of consumer's gullibility. Generally, if I use a product and find out that it does not live up to its expectations, I discontinue its use immediately.
But, sometimes, a product is quite excellent and comes with an extremely annoying feature - such as, the stupid plastic cover on DVDs. I continue to buy DVDs hoping that someday someone will rectify this defect. I am sure there is a genius out there who will figure it out.
With Jake, the product is human and therefore, it comes with a private life, political beliefs and moral choices. I choose to believe that all the features of the product (some of which is of no use to me or is unknown) are inherently good, because I do enjoy its commercial features i.e. Jake's acting and choice of films. I am guilty - yes, I am extrapolating on the basis of good faith - e.g. I also hope that the organic strawberries sold by Mrs. XYZ, whom I have known for the last five years, are really really organic, every time I buy them.
I hope you will understand my POV.

It is interesting to see the progression of how one story gets spread spun and reinterpreted from one media outlet to another. Each out tries to outdo outscoop or out twist each other, and then other media outlets pick it up. PR doesn't have to do much but put one story up and let the industry do the work for them.
I just had a dream about jake. he was at a place like a nice resort with friends [reese wasnt there, no one else that I knew [no austin either sorry]] and he had a beach towel around his wiast- he had finished swimming and was walking to his room. peole saw him but left him alone and he looked relaxed and nice and cool and wet from just being out of the pool. it was a nice dream with blue skies and the ocean and jake in a towel.
I dreamed of him too last night - he was on stage, dressed up the way he was with Zooey Deschanel. I threw a note on the stage wishing him well, and asking where Austin was because I missed him.
I had a strange one about him a few weeks ago; I saw him in the distance, but couldn't get too close either there was a crowd of people, or possibly a herd of cattle or sheep, and he looked at me and shook his head "No", and mouthed the word "No", repeatedly. I'm not sure if I remember the dream accurately, but I do distinctly remember him shaking his head and saying no. I just can't remember what the context of the dream was 100%Whatever it means!
Oh I understand your point of view too rattler, if I didn't I probably wouldn't still care about Jake.
I have a question. Do you all still follow every bit of gossip about Jake? Would you still pay to see him in a film? What would you do if he and Reese married or/and have a kid?

I'd probably still see his films. If they married or had a kid, I'd turn in my TB card, but would still be a fan. At that point, I'd give up on wondering - the only reason I follow J&A anyway is because I thought it was beautiful and wanted to support them. If he does marry, then I'd still be a fan of his work, but would take it to mean that he's made his choice, and it's his business.
I should mention that in my dream, Jake was elevated, either on a stage or something, and definitely above the crowd.

What Trent said is what Reeke all boils down to for me when it comes to Jake. He's wittingly or unwittingly allowed himself to become lost in that arrangement. No spark, no glow, no colour, face closed up, body language tight, very flat as Tom says. Most of all, no definable independence or network. Don't look at him as Jake Gyllenhaal, just look at him as a regular, young guy who is supposedly in a blissfully happy relationship that's headed towards marriage. Not only do I not observe that in Jake, I don't see a shred of it in Reese. They look half-awake even at the best of times.
I'm eager to see him with just one other person besides Reese again, to see his real self because that's the only time you see it. The last time was when he was talking to that woman at the park. The further we get from Lakers 1, the more incredible those photos become.

This reminds me so much of Reese's relationship with Ryan. Exactly why I showed up here too. I wanted to warn you. I know that sounds silly and overly dramatic but Jake is Ryan at the beginning of his relationship with Reese.
When Ryan turned 30 and became comfortable in his own skin and wanted to start making choices for his family that is when their relationship fell apart. It lasted while he was willing to let Reese have total control and he must have wanted that in the beginning if he was feeling lost and overwhellmed.
That's what reminds me of this situation. Jake might really like and need Reese to take the reigns now but God help him when he wants to take them back.

I look at those pictures at the end of 2005 and beginning of 2006 and you see this happy, vibrant man, who looked more in love than ever even when he was "not officially dating" anyone. Funny how when he is supposed to be in love he looks sadder than we've ever seen him.
i think part of jakes bad desicions is maggie is involved with her own family now and far away. i think maggie is/was a positive influence and sounding board for jake and his self confidence and movie role choices. i think with the 'loss' of maggie jake has taken reese to be his 'big sister' substitute. i think reese has a hand in influencing jake to be in pop. pop is disney, reeses monster gig is disney, do ya really think before maggie 'left' and reese came along jake woulda gone for such commercial role and done a reeke to get it? nope. reese has been all about doing commercial movies. shit - reese has been all about commercial MOVES and self pr her whole career. how jake is following her crap advice is mighty mighty evident.
Still think that vibrant, happy Jake is there. We see glimpses of it like you said about women at the park, the moment outside the dentist off in his bird t-shirt, moments when Reese is no where to be found.

Oh man, don't even get me started on his book carrying. He strikes me as the type who always likes to have a book on the go, literally. And reading everything from Salt: A World History to David Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, the latter of which he named in full during an interview for Jarhead alongside Peter (and had never looked better or more content). Book-loving and thorough, that's a huge facet of the real Jake to me. I know it's still there and I know he and Austin will still be slipping into book stores.

I think Jake and Austin have a lot more in common off screen than we realize. I find it somewhat poetic that the writer and the poet's son fell for the English major.

I voted for the demographic info. The posting of actual phone numbers, physical addresses, etc. would make me feel extremely uncomfortable. I have to say that ITA with Destiny's today's posts (double "'s" here... is this grammatically legit?). Sorry to ride on your coat tail girl but you pretty much expressed my thoughts & feelings about that particular topic, especially regarding Reeke.
Long day but feeling much better lately so will probably post more tomorrow.
