Out Spotlight

This past week during the Supreme Court review of marriage equality, a US national newscaster came out and announce her relationship with a fellow news correspondent and the news they were expecting a child. Today's Out Spotlight is Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk.

Jenna Wolfe was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and at the age of five, moved to Pétion-Ville, Haiti, where she grew up. Her family moved to the U.S. in 1989, and she graduated from Binghamton University with a B.A. in French and English in 1996. She began her journalism career that same year as a news and sports reporter for Binghamton’s Fox affiliate, WICZ, later serving as the sports anchor at WHUF in Rochester, followed by a stint as the first female sportscaster at WB affiliate WPHL in Philadelphia. She is fluent in English, French and Creole.

From 2002 to 2004, she was a reporter-anchor on MSG SportsDesk, a program on the MSG Network, and then moved to ABC, where she spent three years as both a weekend anchor for Eyewitness News this Morning and sports reporter. She joined NBC’s Today as a correspondent in 2007, and served as co-anchor on Weekend Today from 2007-2012, before being demoted to news anchor in a move that reportedly didn’t go over too smoothly. Wolfe is an admitted sports nut who loves skydiving, waterskiing, and racquetball.

Stephanie Gosk graduated from Georgetown University with an economics degree and served time in the Peace Corps.  She began her journalism career as an off-air producer for ABC News, covering the 2000 presidential election. She later served as a producer at ABC, producing and reporting stories on the Iraq War while embedded overseas with the U.S. military, as well as stories on Hurricane Katrina. Gosk moved over to NBC News as a correspondent in 2006, and has covered everything from the death of Osama Bin laden from Pakistan to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

They have been together for three years and Wolfe, who the couple decided would carry the child, recently underwent artificial insemination with an anonymous donor.

Last week Wolfe went on The Today Show to talk about her relationship and their baby on the way.

“We were constantly on the road, juggling a thousand balls at once,” Wolfe told People. “It's a miracle we got it all together.”

They are expecting their first child, a girl,  August 27th.

“This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us,” Wolfe told People. “But I don’t want to bring my daughter into a world where I’m not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is.”

People who work in news are sure leading the way in coming out. Always nice to hear about a couple who decided that being out of the closet was the only way to go with a child on the way.

Life must be tough and sad for those who dont Destiny. Not a healthy way for anyone to live.

Screen actors and athletes. Very sad.

There is a new blind vice that says that another newscaster will be coming out soon.

What TV Host Is Coming Out Next?

Following in the footsteps of Sam Champion, Thomas Roberts, Anderson Cooper and now Jenna Wolfe – another high profile TV newsperson is thinking of coming out of the closet to reveal they too are gay.

Everyone in the business knows the truth about the person we see on TV five days a week, however recently after life became much more public, the pressure is mounting.

It’s very difficult to let people into half of your life and then close the door. Now the door is open you cannot shut it.

Most people are guessing it's Robin Roberts.

I agree said...

Yeah, I think it's Robin Roberts also.

Now if only we could get active athletes and A-list stars to jump on this bandwagon. Fingers crossed for a NFL player to really come out.

Always thought Robin Roberts was gay. She is so classy and quite the role model.

I am so excited about the idea that an NFL player may come out. It would be such a huge barrier.that will be broken. I am convinced that there are no gay A list screen actors. The industry has finally convinced me:-)

Not only did we manage to get into Prune for dinner but Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton were lucky enough to be sitting just a few tables away from us,
Siobhan informs me he wasn't in Spider-Man but I'm not so sure... As far as celeb spotting goes Jake and Gemma have had a crackin night...

Stuart forgot to check where Gemma was. And someone forgot Jake's supposed to be with his new girl Emily.

Gemma Aterton was in L.A.

Somebody dropped the ball while trying to make up Jake sightings.

I dont watch the news much, relying on the web to keep up, so no clue who the latest person to come out will be. But everyone that comes out is one more step in the process of acceptance. And the NFL player is reportedly a former 49er.

I don't think the Emily thing is gonna happen beyond that US Weekly exclusive.. She's gorgeous, but far too young. Gemma just split from her husband and she and Jake have friendship history, so I wouldn't be surprised if they go on a few "dates" this spring/summer.

Poor Jake. So many beautiful women, but gosh it's hard to find the right one. That's a man's job you know, to choose the right woman.
