Dating Games

(Possibly) Coming to a TV near you... Prince of Persia.... but not what you think.
Are they making PoP as TV series? Miniseries for simultaneous broadcasts on Lifetime and G4? NO!
There is a new reality dating show in preproduction for VH1 and it has nothing to do with finding Jake a date. (Cause, that's would be on Bravo, on Logo, no no Bravo)

It's female emcee Rachel Mucerino, aka Persia, from VH1's "Ego Trip's (White) Rapper Show" who is looking for love, or well someone who can keep the beat, on her dating reality show Prince of Persia. Auditions for potential princes are currently underway.

A good dating show that's on right now:

OK's caption: "One Tree Hill c0-stars.... got everyone up on the dance floor"

OMG's caption: "I'll take the bride to block, Alex"

Austin's newest tweets. The commentary is all mine.

I think stephen colbert should take over for steve carell. #theoffice They have the same initials. Dick york/dick sargent. Bewitched!!

Yes, Colbert could "Ace" for Carrell's "Gary". Wait is that too ambiguously of a duo?

Congrats to the cast of #onetreehill for their #emmynomination. New category. Greenest cast!!!! :)

It's like getting Miss Geniality for a Rose Queen who didn't get a nom the was competing for

Happy bday @SophiaBush. Everyone vote for her #teenchoiceaward and sign the #declarationofenergyindependence. #globalgreen.org

This is my tweet of the day that's PR approved:D

Wow, I just listened to the podcast. Thanks so much for finding this as it must go into the record books as a real keeper. I will listen to it again a couple more times. I also reread all the comments from last night and M&M summarized much of my own thoughts upon hearing it. The pregnant pause after the mention of POP, like I can't believe you saw that dreck. The he's "that gay guy" re Jake which caused the interviewer to panic for a moment. Worried about being sued I guess. He also said "he's gayer than Troy and this from a gay man himself." I'll continue in another comment as I know blogger has a limit.

It was a phone interview, which is unfortunate as they talked over each other a number of times. While they were both trying to be entertaining, there is no doubt in my mind that Laermer was totally serious about what he was saying. I was saddened to hear him say about Maggie - "she's a real actress", implying that Jake is not. I do think he is a talented actor. What Laermer's comment reinforces to me is that Jake's bearding with Motherspooon caused HW insiders to lose respect for him. POP just made it worse. Not the first time we've seen evidence of that loss of respect.

That discussion about Maggie made me go "ouch". Unfortunately I think Jake is perceived as having a limited range, and POP may have reinforced that. I think he is a good actor, and that he hasn't always had the opportunity to show off his range--in particular I think he is great at comedy, and would love to see a musical.

I so think however that Maggie is the better actor in the family.

destiny said...

I do think, not "so".

depth said...

LOL I'm the opposite. I like Jake's acting more than Maggie's. With Jake I see the character and his thoughts; with Maggie I see Maggie trying to be another slut or know-it-all character of the movie.

I didn't feel panic at all! Still think they had fun of him with the rumours.

just thinking of something : someone said Laermer is disgusted by the fake image jake is selling but is he by the others even more established supposed fake in HW or only jake has his favor? Dicaprio,Clooney,Franco...? I just wondering.

"Clips for Vampires Suck and Love and Other Drugs both won strong reactions from the crowd. Vampires Suck is a Twilight parody, while Love and Other Drugs is a dark comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Director Edward Zwick sent a taped message to play before the Love and Drugs clip."

Someone's gotta ask Austin if he got hammered, screwed and nailed at the hardware store. Oh and if it was male parts or female parts.

re 6:22. Jake came up in conversation during the interview, he was not part of a planned discussion, so no other bearding actors were mentioned. First they discussed Sex and The City 2 being filmed in Morocco, which led Ramsey to think of POP, also filmed there. Another indication that Laermer meant everything he said.

I went back and read Ramsey's movie review of POP, or rant, as he calls it. He did not like the film at all to say the least.

Really, the whole interview blew me away. I checked Laermers website. He has a very impressive roster of clients.

Good news out of Boston courts

Judge declares US gay-marriage ban is unconstitutional

A federal district court judge in Boston today struck down the 1996 federal law that defines marriage as a union exclusively between a man and a woman.

Got to say Jake has asked for the reaction he has got. Not surprised he was made fun of in the tape. It is all about respect and i dont think he has much now in HW. I am sure most of HW realizes he is Gay. reeke made sure of that. I think if words werent so positive for LAOD Jake be shitting his pants right now. But he got his payday so maybe not.

As far as Austins tweets go I guess he is trying to apeal to 15 yo high school girls who watch OTH.
In reality I think this bearding game is really more about saving this apparently really bad show.

ASkars with a Full of Ass

Sometimes a video comes along that just makes you want to lock the chain on your door and call in sick. This might be one of those videos. It's True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard partaking in some drunken dry ass play with his "Beyond The Pole" (I'll fucking say) co-star Rhys Thomas. It's like a frat boy party meets a Calvin Klein ad circa 1995 meets a fangerbaner's wet daydream.

ASkars exposes his Swedish nipples before trying to awaken Rhys' no-no with a faux ass much. Rhys is trying to act all giggly, but you know he got the twitches at least once.

I sure most HW couldn't care less! most HW is gay and playing the game according brillant gossip columnist. Stop saying jake is the black sheep and isn't respected, it's getting ridiculous. He is mocked like all the other public figures in the industry, no more , no less.

No, he pretty much did, cya. Of course most people no matter who they are on the record are going to back off a bit. Did you yourself listen to that thing?
He could be on Larry King tomorrow and issue a statement of backing off or denial; it's kind of too late now, lol. Words are out. Sounds like what was said in a podcast possibly got more attention and request for pinpointing than he was prepared for? Because that sounds exactly like a Liquid Plumber back up to me, lol.

Those 2 guys were carrying on a conversation and I believe his real feelings were all over the place. It's got to be different than sitting there on Oprah with cameras in front of you and there's not ever a moment of forgetting where you are and what you're doing.

Well, I'm dinking around and I'm going to be running late, probably. Last a.m. with my boy. I wish I could just pack him up and take him with me.

I dont think Richard outed Jake. He didnt say that he had any definitive info that Jake was Gay but was talking in terms of assumption. It definetely was a bold thing to say but he didnt out Jake. We say everyday here that Jake is Gay but we are not outing him.

Really good article on Box office Analysis in today's Variety

B.O. analysis: Hollywood danger zone
Many analysts erroneously use opening numbers to judge movies' success

Here's a bit of it:

Box office analysis is tricky, but for some reason, everyone wants to do it, and everyone has their own interpretation. Thus, Fox's "Knight and Day" absolutely "whiffed" in its $20.1 million opening weekend on June 18, according to the New York Times, and "tanked," according to the L.A. Times, while CNN.com ran the headline "Knight and Day: Cruise loses control" and a Chyron on a cable-TV newscast read "Tom Cruise in big trouble."

Numbers don't lie -- except when they do.

Earlier in June, Disney's "Prince of Persia" bowed to $37.8 million, and the Wall Street Journal deemed it a "soft" opening, adding that "the film was challenged by a variety of factors, including the decision to cast as the lead Jake Gyllenhaal, better known for playing sensitive guys."

There were other laments this year, according to various websites: "Latest 'Shrek' tops box office, but disappoints"; "?'Iron Man 2' disappointed many and made less than expected"; and "Russell Crowe's recent narcissistic walkout of an interview may have contributed to the film's ('Robin Hood') lower domestic box office receipts..."

We are living in an instant society, demanding microwave-fast answers to complex questions, with an impulse to immediately deify or bury any new thing that comes along -- including films.

read the rest here Variety

One more quote:

But you can't cite planets as an authority, so folks often blame the stars. (Does anyone seriously believe Gyllenhaal was the main problem with "Persia"?)

Some journos seem to think above-the-title stardom should guarantee spectacular box office. As a reminder, Katharine Hepburn was once labeled box office poison. Bette Davis, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, etc., are remembered for their peak moments in classic films. But hit after hit? No way. (Will Smith's track record, like Pixar's, is amazing because it's rare, not because it's setting a standard for everyone else.)

A nice perspective, Spesh. :)

It’s too bad that some come here to pester commenters not in the interest of a sincere disagreement but because they find some sense of embarrassment or shame with those who believe Jake is not straight. That there is something that would be bad about believing that. He is beautiful exactly how he is.

And I’ve always thought no one “has” to come out. It’s the public deceit that doesn’t set well with me, as well as a lot of other people – the over the top carrying on of trying to paint a different picture. And it’s ironic because to me, what that does is tell me that person is embarrassed or ashamed or something. So by doing that, they open the door themselves to maybe being ridiculed or poked fun at because they go to great lengths to hide. Isn’t that ironic?

That’s very ironic to me. And what I don’t know that Jake still doesn’t realize is that people loved him the way he was. They loved him the way he was. And I think sometimes that’s why, of all celebrities, his bearding bothered a lot of people more so than others.

But it’s a new slate. Every day is a new day and always brings new possibilities no matter how we think it’s going to go. Life is unpredictable. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes from here.

PG, great post at 9:57.

The Variety article is interesting, although I don't entirely agree with it. Unfortunately in this day and age most films have to find their audience immediately. Gone are the days when films were rolled out slowly across the country and didn't play in thousands of theaters at once. Jaws changed that, and it was one of the reasons the great 70s era of film-making came to and end.

This change in how films are distributed is part of what drives the interest in the opening weekend box office. There are exceptions, as he pointed out--films that take their time and find an audience, particularly smaller films or family films. But with big films it's get them in right away, before the next one, or before word of mouth of how mediocre it is gets out.

I agree that it is wrong to put all the blame on the stars. But HW buys into that, not just the papers that report on it. And it is HW that continues to buy into the myth that being a tabloid and gossip star makes you a star that everyone will see. And of course the closet system all gets tied unfairly into that too.
