"Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak."
Almeria in Act I, Scene 1 The Mourning Bride [1697]
UPDATE: Source Code World Premiere March 11th SXSW, Austin, TX.
A musical interlude sounds good. And music make movies even better.
Music is key in movies. It creates a tone, a mood, it is another character that interacts with the audience. It can be bold and commanding like a main character, or in the background giving depth like a supporting player. It can give hints of what to come, build the intensity brewing, celebrate and reminisce. And even in the most futuristic mind bending movies there is a need for music. Source Code is no exception. And in the last day there was news about Source Code and music.
@ManMadeMoon How long does it take to record an entire score for a movie on average?
Duncan replied:
@rstudios dont know about the average, but its going to take us 3 days
And Duncan gave a little peek of the behind the scenes in a twitpic.
But that wasn't what got the buzz going. It was who was the music maker, well more like who wasn't going to be making the music that did.
Duncan let everyone know he is not to be able re-team with his ‘Moon’ composer Clint Mansell for ‘Source Code’ on twitter.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to work out a schedule so Clint could do the score in the end. He has been a very busy bee.”
Film composer Clint Mansell worked with Duncan on Duncan's first feature Moon, and early on Duncan had said he was looking forward to working with him on Source Code. Mansell has created some of the most haunting and memorable film scores in the last few years. Many might have heard his work in collaborating with director Darren Aronofsky on such films as Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler and just out Black Swan.
So who is taking over the duties?
@TwinMadeFilms very talented young guy called Chris Bacon, who was recommended by my editor, the legendary Paul Hirsch.
Bacon has written scores for Waking Sleeping Beauty, a documentary about the history of Walt Disney animation; the animated movie Alpha and Omega, and the upcoming movie Gnomeo and Juliet.
While it is disappointing that they won't get to work together on SC, it does sound like Duncan wants for find a way that he and Aronofsky can share Clint in the future.
@Redux015 indeed! DA and I need to agree some kind of divorce settlement to see which of us gets Clint on weekends! ;)
A Season's Greeting:
Duncan's dad created a classic holiday moment in a duet with Bing Crosby.
Now in the hands of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly it became this:
And well then there is OMG's Drummer Boy.
What was that about soothing, again?

I think Source Code is going to be really, really good.
Jake looks much older than 29. I don't think that's a problem - he's gorgeous, so it only opens up more roles for him when it comes to age range. It will get harder for him to play mid-twenties like he did in LaOD, but will open up roles that are going to actors in their 30s and 40s who are getting a bit too old for them, like Damon, Pitt and Clooney.
It does, however, make it harder for him to beard with a 20-year old. He really should have a basement on the beard's age of 25 at this point!
WAIT LARRY KING!! You never interviewed me. I need another year or so. Stick around. @kingsthings

Updated the post.
Source Code will have its World Premiere at SXSW in Austin, TX on March 11th.
Great post today! Musical scores and soundtracks sure add to a film for me. Looking forward to Source Code, and I agree with Austin, have been waiting for Tree of Life also. Off to watch the trailer! :)
Had to smile at Ted's letters today. :)
We always bitch when new couples hit the Hollywood scene and take advantage of every photo op possible, but when news broke that Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds split, we weren't at all shocked because they took privacy a little too far.
Seriously, when did they ever hang out together? Not once did they pull a Brangelina and share a red carpet while slobbering all over each other (the only time it's sometimes acceptable).
So in ScarJo and Ryan's honor, we applaud those babes who balance the love-and-career stuff (pretty) well. Here are five of our fave stealthy young couples (in no partick order) who, funny enough, have never actually admitted to being couples:
1. Joe Jonas and Ashley Greene:
2. Kate Bosworth and Alexander SkarsgÄrd:
3. Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins:
4. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart:
5. Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift: Still budding Jaylor have spent five or so weekends together, and although grabbing coffee may be as hot as their relationship has gotten, we know these two are an item of sorts. No, not because they are perfectly staring into a paparazzi's camera while groping each other (in a way too PG way), but because both Taylor and Jake's friends can't stop yapping about it—tho the stars themselves are playing coy. Any bets on whether Tay shows up at the Golden Globes? We say no, which would be the smartest thing she's ever done since not fessing who "Dear John" was about. Girl knows how to play the game.

The Daily Beast:
"We gay men have always proudly claimed you as a member of our tribe, and yet you don't proudly claim us back. Why?"
Kevin Spacey:
"Look, I might have lived in England for the last several years, but I'm still an American citizen and I have not given up my right to privacy. People have different reasons for the way they live their lives. You cannot put everyone's reasons in the same box. It's just a line I've never crossed and never will. But why is it in this country that kids might think it's OK to bully and make fun of somebody? I'll tell you why, because what do they see in the media happening all the time? In the media they seem to think that's OK, so if we stop using sexuality as a weapon against people, maybe everyone will eventually get cool with it. I don't live a lie. You have to understand that people who choose not to discuss their personal lives are not living a lie. That is a presumption that people jump to. Look, at the end of the day, people have to respect people's differences. I am different than some people would like me to be. I just don't buy into that the personal can be political. I just think that's horses--t. No one's personal life is in the public interest. It's gossip, bottom line. End of story. Now some people feed that. They'll go to the trendy restaurants where all the photographers are and then bitch about being famous. But if you don't want to feed that and you want your life to be based around what your work is then it ends there."
^Do you see what all these couple have in common? Beards. There are comments all over the internet about these being set up fauxmances.
Wow, Kate Bosworth & Alexander Skarsgard? Really. hmmm.
Austin does have the ability to hit my funny bone. LOL at the Larry King line.
Watching Andy Hardy Meets the Debutante with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. I so love watching young Judy Garland in movies.
OwlGirl, I don't know what you think, but I think if Jake would shave off even the scruff, it would take 5+ years off of him. Shave off the scruff & grow out the hair a bit.
Maybe there's a reason for that buzz-ish haircut, though, who knows?
omg my auntie said she sw Jake Gyllenhaal at the airprt tdy & said "Ooh look at Kendra's bf" & she didn't evn gt me an autograph! I'm upset. 38 minutes ago via Echofon wynterrrr
Well, guess what?
I have a left tibial fracture! Can't believe it. And it actually felt better today and I was able to walk better. Almost canceled the dr's appt but didn't. Dr. thought it was a 2nd degree sprain. It wasn't. He was surprised, too.
This thing is heavy and it teeters me off balance but I bet it's just a matter of getting used to it. You see people walking around in these things all the time, although I wish it was shorter.
And my orthopedic doctor is dark-haired beautiful with gorgeous dark eyes. I get to go see him again next week and the week after that. Unfortunately that means co-pays every darn time and my flex account is kaput from that stupid crown.
And in case anyone else ever has to have one of these boots, if you've not met your deductible yet, it's going to set you back $152 buckaroos. Dangit!!!!
I love my doctor, though. Boy, I've crushed on my back rehab therapist and now I get to crush on my ortho doc. It's my only consolation.
Wow, nothing like Judy Garland belting out a song. Is there? I don't think so. Could she sing a song. And with such a beautiful smile on her face and that little nose. lol. She had a cute nose.

I posted this earlier today, but my comment was deleted. Not sure what I did wrong?>
This is now on E! - Kevin Spacey being interviewed by The Daily Beast.
Rumors have always surrounded Kevin Spacey's sexuality. But the actor—who just this week scored a Golden Globe nomination for his work in Casino Jack—has always maintained an enigmatic silence on the subject, remaining above the fray by refusing to address the questions that hover over his love life.
Until now.
As part of the promotion for his new movie, the 51-year-old sat down for an interview with an openly gay reporter from The Daily Beast, who apparently decided it was well past time to go there.
"We gay men have always proudly claimed you as a member of our tribe, and yet you don't proudly claim us back," the interviewer told Spacey. "Why?"
Spacey was, at first, understandably taken aback by the brazenness of the question.
"Look, I might have lived in England for the last several years, but I'm still an American citizen and I have not given up my right to privacy," the actor said.
"People have different reasons for the way they live their lives. You cannot put everyone's reasons in the same box. It's just a line I've never crossed and never will."
He elaborated even further when the conversation turned to the deplorable recent surge of gay teen bullying, and Spacey said he would absolutely be willing to appear in an "It Gets Better" PSA.
"But why is it in this country that kids might think it's OK to bully and make fun of somebody?" he asked. "I'll tell you why, because what do they see in the media happening all the time? In the media they seem to think that's OK, so if we stop using sexuality as a weapon against people, maybe everyone will eventually get cool with it."
Spacey seemed to grow decreasingly cagey—while still not outright confirming or denying anything about his sexuality—as the conversation went on.
"I don't live a lie," he explained. "You have to understand that people who choose not to discuss their personal lives are not living a lie. That is a presumption that people jump to.
"Look, at the end of the day, people have to respect people's differences. I am different than some people would like me to be. I just don't buy into that the personal can be political. I just think that's horses--t. No one's personal life is in the public interest. It's gossip, bottom line. End of story.
"Now some people feed that. They'll go to the trendy restaurants where all the photographers are and then bitch about being famous. But if you don't want to feed that and you want your life to be based around what your work is then it ends there."
Somehow, we think the same can't be said for those rumors.

Special, the mere mention of the importance of the musical score as a character in a movie brings Gustavo Santaolala's haunting and wonderful compositions into my head. For over five years now I have lived with some portion of the BBM soundtrack in my life on a daily basis.
Music is integral to life itself in my humble opinion, but when you get that exact match-up, where characters and music intertwine, it truly is magic!
That's a rotten break PG (sorry, I couldn't resist a bad pun). And i lknow you're like me when it comes to walking, so that is doubly rough.
In the blind vice for Skaarsgard Ted has said Nelly Fang is bi and implied that the relationship with Kaye is real.so not sure she is a beard in the true sense of the word.
Yeah, 6 weeks the doc said is about how long it takes to heal, as long as it doesn't get any worse. I'm going to get all out of walking fit; that's what makes me mad.
OTOH, I'm going to gain an extra hr of sleep by not having to get up to walk so there's a good thing.
Tomorrow is Friday, thank goodness. Can't wait to try & navigate the stairs up to the office with the Herman Munster shoe. lol
Can you believe next week is Christmas week? I can't. Where has the time gone?
Who knew Will Ferrill could sing. That clip was cute.
Seaweed, I woke up to the Brokeback soundtrack for about 3 years straight and had it in rotation in my car for the drive to work at the same time. I finally switched but the cd is still right next to the clock radio, just in case. That movie hit on every cylinder. No false notes in any area.
Windows did some big updates last evening and as usual it took me forever to get Firefox to work right. Happens every time. Annoying as hell.
