Reindeer Games

Rudolph-The-Red-Nose-Reindeer is my hero! Embrace Your Oddities!! They will define you later in life.
Think Austin can identify?
What would we ever do with out those ears?

While there are tall tales about Jake's Christmas shopping, he does have to do some real shopping. So what do you get from a special guy as Austin?

For the guy who love desert boots and quirk, how could you not go wrong with Blue Suede ones from Ben Sherman. We kid that Austin's fashion sense is out there, but you know it's seems like others are playing catch up to him. And with shoes goes socks and with Austin he's the stripes to Jake's solids.

Now that he has brought back the high five, how about a hoodie with its own beer pocket, so there's no delay in getting the super high high five (atta boy). Also convenient for other times when your hands are full of other things. ; )

And with a guy who's name is named after bourbon and birds, you have to go with the Buck Shot glasses. This maybe the only time Buck shot and Wild Turkey work.

For books, no doubt he's got Freedom already since you know it's Oprah's choice. (Thanks Julian!) But how about A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. It's about a cynical rock -n-roll producer and the people who intersect his world over 40 years and told through 13 different characters, each with their own story and voice. Sounds gimmicky but it isn't and has a "Proustian feel for loss, regret and the ravages of love." And there's My Best Friend Is a Wookiee: A Memoir, One Boy's Journey to Find His Place in the Galaxy by Tony Pacitti Certified Star Wars geek Tony Pacitti charts his life in relation to the trilogy from pathetic childhood and adolescence to Luke Skywalker-like coming of age.

Still going literary - why not put it on the walls, with maybe a poster of the story. We know Austin is a big fan of Tink and the boys but there are others to pick from like The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, Ulysses, and The War of the Worlds.

Or wear it, and after seeing his hat for Clothes off Our Back, this one might be fitting, and guess what Paragon Sports sells it. (Hmmm maybe that's what Jake was looking for in the Men's Dept)

Now of course Austin wants to look good and he's got a lot that is already looking might fine. But who can't use another Man Can. Spicy Rummy and little salty.

There are always movies to get for a cinephile like Austin, and he has been tweeting movies all year, but there are some still he hasn't gotten. While sure he may already have picked up Inception, Avatar and Back to the Future 25th edition, but what about The Magnificent Seven on Blu-Ray, The Humphrey Bogart Box set that has 'The Petrified Forest,' 'High Sierra,' 'Maltese Falcon,' 'All Through the Night,' 'The Big Sleep,' 'Casablanca,' 'Key Largo' and 'Treasure of the Sierra Madre.' or have some fun with the 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Edition' on Blu-ray, with Karaoke. Damn it Janet! Who would be Dr. Frank-N-Furter?

Austin journals his movie watching, but now leading the way in ecoconciousness, why not do it in something upcycled. Like a former lp turned into a journal. It uses both the album and the cover.

Or these amp Voltaic solar bag that can charge up his blackberry.

So many good songs, so little time, but maybe a couple; Phosphorescent's “Here’s to Taking It Easy", Caribou's “Swim’, no doubt that he already has the Black Keys' "Brothers" downloaded on something.

And when he's in the mood? Mood Mustaches of course. (Check out Sassy!) Who could say no to that? How to say so much without saying a word.

And for accessories? He's done LOL the movie, so yeah he could do with that . But come on, one with OMG he'd be cracking up.

And one more for the little Dutch boy? Just say Gouda!

What's Patagonia Sports? It was Paragon Sports. Sheesh.

Oh, calm the heck down, 16:54.

Special did not say the Patagonia Sports store. She said Patagonia sells it.

Yes, Patagonia, the sports company. They make outdoor sporting apparel.

So yes, she does know what she speaks of.

Merry Christmas to you.

Mom, does 16:54 have to sit at the grown-ups table with us?

**sigh**. I love specialists. They're like therapists/psychologists; they listen & indulge. Sympathize. Educate. Scold. Listen again. Stand there and look wonderful.

He told me to keep my boot on, though. And these first several weeks are very important & crucial. Yesss, sirrr!!. Boot on.

I love my P.A. Did I say that already?

prairiegirl said...

Special, you weren't supposed to say that! There is a Patagonia - maker of serious looking sports apparel. You should take a look at it. Man, that stuff is serious. I bet it's pricey, too.

BTW, excellent pick up on Jake being in the men's department. He does look good there, albeit tired. The guy is always tired looking. You do have to wonder what it is that's making him look tired when he's not even working.
Hmmmmmm?? It's a legitimate question.

I got a 1/2 day off today - am now officially on the big Holiday V.

Special K said...

I know there is a Patagonia sports too, but the cycling jersey is at Paragon.

Now Jake in the Men's dept. Not a place to shop for any ladies on the list. But who is an outdoor kind of guy, like Jake? Hmmm.

Latest People.com on ol' Tay.

I guess she's going to be on Jan. 3 Rachel Ray show and she's asked who would she take on a date to the Prom. Careful, it gets a little, like - crazy fun. I'm sorry, this deserves to be in bold.

"It would be a group, and it would be a really fun group," the singer, 21, says on the Jan. 3 episode of the Rachael Ray show. "Because all these different reasons. Well, Katy Perry would be so much fun. She’s just like crazy fun and like spontaneous."

Swift continues, "Diddy has always been very nice to me. Justin Timberlake is the same way, he’s really funny. And, Sheryl Crow is really down to earth and really cool. And like, J. Lo would be a really good dancer!"

And then it goes on to say:

Noticeably absent from her list is one star she's been seen with recently: Jake Gyllenhaal.

**shakes head**. Man, excuse me for a minute.

guys....i just saw jake gyllenhaal....
i was at the fao schwartz in nyc and he was at the cash register. he had a big coat and sunglasses on so we figured he was trying to be somewhat incognito and didn't bother him, but my friends and i were all giggling and trying to take subtle pictures, so i'm pretty sure he knew we knew, but he seemed amused by the whole thing. he was so hot, omg

Why would Rachael Ray ask her about a prom? She's 21. I think she was home schooled so maybe she missed it but that ship has passed already. Taylor never talks about her "Bf's" only via songs, Ellen doesn't count becaise she refused to talk about him even when Ellen posted the pics of them walking around Brooklyn wuth that group of friends.

Tweets of Jake at FAO were already posted.

Actually I don't think PR is behind the extravagant spending stories. It is just so unlike Jake. His tastes are pretty basic, really, judging by his cars, clothes, and how he spends his time. His people did release a denial statement and mentioned his charities. Smart move.

Off topic, but I watched a clip of the new movie Country Strong on E. There is a new guy out and about. Garret Hedlund, 27. Sexy as hell and what a voice to go with the face. He had never sung before but they worked with him for his part and he did great, at least in the clip. Reminded me of Kris Kristofferson.

There's a picture of Jake in the store in one of the comments on ONTD. LOLLL!

Jake inside the store in sunglasses. What a crack up. Obviously that really threw people off the trail.

People are everywhere with their cellphone cameras. LOL at these girls giggling and taking pictures of him in the store. Reminds me of that one picture we saw of the girls who spotted him inside that restaurant and they looked like they were giggling. I loved that picture.

In yet another instance of dumb and dumber, HollywoodLife picks up a story from In Touch that claims Jake Gyllenhaal bought new lady love Taylor Swift a $100,000 diamond bracelet.

“It’s an Oscar-worthy bracelet — nearly 30 carats of colorless diamonds set in white gold,” HollywoodLife quotes an In Touch “source” as saying. “It cost Jake about $100,000, but he wanted to do something special for Taylor’s birthday.”

Not only that, but HollywoodLife even posted a picture of “a similar” looking bracelet.

Here’s what HollywoodLife and In Touch got right: NOTHING.

Here’s what HollywoodLife and In Touch got wrong: EVERYTHING.

Gyllenhaal did NOT buy Swift a $100,000 diamond bracelet – or 21 pounds of coffee.

A rep for Gyllenhaal tells Gossip Cop: “All aspects of this are false.”

Additionally, as we noted last week, stories about Gyllenhaal buying Swift a $10,000 guitar are also not true.

For the record, the actor doesn’t throw money around like that, but he does support such charities dear to him as “New Eyes for the Needy” and “The Chez Panisse Foundation.”

That was so gratifying watching President OBama sign that Bill. Thanks for posting it SK. He has kept his promise on that. This Bill along with the Hate Crimes Act is now showing The President's base that he hasn't forgot about them.

President Obama stands tall today.

"No longer will tens of thousands of Americans in uniform be asked to live a lie."

The president described the signing as "the right thing to do for our military," as well as "the right thing to do, period."

"Now, with any change there's some apprehension," Mr. Obama said. "That's natural. But as Commander in Chief, I am certain that we can effect this transition in a way that only strengthens our military readiness and that people will look back on this moment and wonder, why was ever a source of controversy in the first place?"

"For we are not a nation that says 'don't ask, don't tell,'" he concluded. "We are a nation that says out of many we are one. We are a nation that welcomes the service of every patriot. We are a nation that believes that all men and women are created equal. Those are the ideals that generations have fought for, those are the ideals that we uphold today, and now it is my honor to sign this bill into law."

And of course, someone had to press him about same-sex marriage and while he said he still supports only "strong civil unions", the article says that Obama said "his feelings are evolving".

He said that "this is going to be an issue that is not unique to the military, this is an issue that extends to all of our society and I think we're all going to have to have a conversation about it."

Evolving. That's the name of the game. You're not going to flip some people's minds like a dime in the middle of the football field. Not everyone is going to have a big revelation. It may take several events, a witness of a respected leader/celebrity, a relative or a close friend coming out, whatever.

But the key word is evolving. And I think that's what we've seeing right now. It's a series of events happening over our time, what we are seeing right now, from Melissa Etheridge coming out and being accepted into mainstream, Neil Patrick Harris coming out and hosting the Tony's, Brokeback Mountain impacting hundreds of thousands of people, one of our loaders on the dock being open & accepted as an out lesbian, HGTV openly featuring gay couples on House Hunters; I don't know, this is what comes to mind as groundbreaking but are now "don't think anything about it now" events going on around us.

It's not a big deal. It's not earth spinning. No one thinks anything about it now.

And yet it is huge. It is history in the making right now.

LOL! Except straight men can marry and gay men can't. PFFTTTTTT

prairiegirl said...

And I'll tell you what, after reading about the Republicans being the ones fighting the repeal of DADT and some of them possibly still trying to fight this, I'm wanting to reverse my registration and get Republican right off of there.

That's darn embarrassing. I don't know how one does that, but I'm sure there's a way.

Hey, I'm born & raised in Kansas - it was expected long, long ago, lol.

Huh? said...

It's not about "people's mind". Who gives a stuff what straight Joe thinks. It's about equal rights. Straight Joe already has the right to marry, gay Joe doesn't.

prairiegirl said...

You didn't read what I just re-quoted up there. He did say he still thinks "strong civil unions". But he said his thoughts are evolving.

What does that tell you? It's leaving a big door open, that's what.

Everything doesn't happen overnight. Big movements in U.S. history didn't happen during a 15 minute overtime period.

What I am amazed at is how much has changed just in the past 5 years.

We've seen a lot, you guys, we really have.

prairiegirl said...

And you're right.

But that attitude & way of bringing it to the table isn't what's going to change minds. All you're going to do is make them dig their heels in.

You don't get it, do you. Battling hate with that kind of attitude isn't going to accomplish anything.

I'm not discussing this any further. You go ahead and spout off all you want now. I'm done.

You've taken positive comments and spun it into a belittling, combative argument. You've ruined it.

Oh cut the crap, PG is not patronizing and does understand more than most what it is like to be gay.

I am surprised at Obama this week, but being a skeptical person I am wary of his answer on gay marriage. He doesn't have the spine to support something that controversial, but I think he didn't want to ruin a rare moment of achievement.

Still cannot believe the bill passed, and how many other things got done during the lame-duck session. As much as I hate the tax cuts for millionaires, looks like that getting passed helped get other things done.

Ho Ho Ho Awards Jake vs. Reese

Last year was too fun, so it's time for another round of our fabulously horrible Ho, Ho, Ho Awards! And since twenty-ten was the year of the celeb splits, we Truthers decided it was the perfect time to find out which humbug half of some of T-town's top power couples was the bigger ho, post-break up.

The winners of each of the forthcoming 11 rounds will be announced Jan. 4, plus a little surprise.

First up, the coffee-loving couple formerly known as Gyllenspoon. Remember them?

Jake Gyllenhaal: Following his tabloid cover split from RW, Jakey played it low-key, preferring under-the-radar flings to headline-ready hookups—until he started to get caffeinated-cozy with Taylor Swift, that is. Now that twosome can't go a day without being spotted at one coffee house or another. Sound familiar?

Reese Witherspoon: Oft-wicked Witherspoon dropped JG and was out and about with her new dude, agent Jim Toth, in no time. Maybe sooner than she said? Hmm. And while the limelight-loving star has stayed surprisingly silent about her guy, that hasn't stopped the tabloids from thinking he'll pop the question soon. Can you stand it until he does? We can.
Ho, Ho, Ho Awards: Round 1
Who was the bigger post-breakup ho?

* 64.0% Reese Witherspoon
* 36.0% Jim Toth

Dear Ted:
Nelly Fang, Parrish Maguire, Toothy Tile, Nevis Divine, and I feel like I'm missing one... Anyway, are any of these guys actually in love with their beards? If so, which one?

Of course I don't know exactly how it feels; how could I? It's not fair. I don't profess to know what it's like but I have known what it's like to have a wary eye on oneself and it's not fun.

Boy, I'm looking at that gouda cheese and it sure looks good. lol.

I'm enjoying a quiet morning at home right now, playing my ever expanding collection of holiday tunes. Boy, that .977 internet channel was just the greatest find this year. I found some great music from that station; there's just so much out there, it's unbelievable. I mean, I never would've known who Bruce Cockburn was and I surely never would have given his music a listen to if it hadn't been for this station. What a find!

And Darlene Love. Can that woman rock out a holiday tune or what?

Narada puts out some great stuff. And right now playing is a new one I downloaded yesterday by Smashing Pumpkins, called Christmastime. Excellent! LOL, man, I never would've imagined me downloading a song by Smashing Pumpkins.

Alison Krauss "Only You Can Bring Me Cheer". "Gee Whiz, It's Christmas" by Carla Thomas. Who in the heck is Carla Thomas? I don't know but I love that song, too.

I just love finding new music.

Don't even get me started on Arizona PG. I have a lot of connections to the place and love the desert, but it is seriously messed up politically, starting with the papers please law and cutting off funding for people who need organ transplants.
