Is it a statement maker or a fashion maker?
Dostoevsky said "We all come out from Gogol's 'Overcoat'.", referring to the Nikolai Gogol's famous short story, The Overcoat.
Is Austin making an homage to the story and the film adaptation of Gogol.
Gogol's story takes readers through the mundane and alienating world of a bureaucratic office in St. Petersburg Russia where an awkward, impoverished clerk must scrimp and save in order to afford a badly needed new winter coat. As the story progresses, you enter a fairy-tale world of supernatural revenge, where the clerk's corpse is seen wandering city streets ripping coats off the backs of passersby. Gogol's story is both comic and horrific—at once a scathing social satire, moralistic fable, and psychological study.
Is the raggedy sleeves symbolic of the struggle of the working class or just sleeves too short?
Then again it maybe a fashion statement - because who needs an overcoat in California?
But of course he might have been giving a hint about a personal connection with a movie and overcoats...

Who knew it was possible to fall in love with an old gray coat. It just screams "Austin" in so many ways. Not just because of the connections, but the quirky fashion sense, and knowing that what he wears reflects his tastes, and not that of a stylist.
There is a comment on the Awful Truth that there was a picture up for a few minutes that showed Jake kissing and holding hands with another guy, and that that picture was then replaced with the current Reeke one - does anybody know anything about this?
How long did the Awful Truth have the Jake/Austin picture up for?
Minutes?
Would it be possible to find it in a screenshot on the Way Back Machine?
I can't believe Ted would run a picture like that, seems more likely that someone is making it up.
Someone made it up. That AT entry was posted last night on the previous OMG thread and WFT2 and they had the same J&R picture, it is now for some reason posted on AT but it's the same post, don't know how whoever posted it got access to that before it was posted on the E site, not the first time it happened.
Ted has thrown stuff up and down before, remember the picture of Jake with the word competition under it, and then was no mention of him but too Toothy and Crisp Lisp? Then it got pulled.
But not sure about this one, pretty wild if he did even for a few minutes, cause Ted knows how the game goes in HW, and know what would happen to him.
O

I won't believe this until I see proof of it. Too easy to make up.
That AT post was posted 12:27AM on the previous post here on OMG, that would mean that it was posted on the E site 9:27Pm west coast time only it wasn't posted on the E site until this morning, the time: 7:00 although last night the time was 9:00am.
Could be a poster here lives in the UK or somewhere else and they are getting AT bloggings before the US, but you would think it would be the other way around. And this was AT's second post not the first, weird.
Anyway, I looked last night and it was the same picture, if that commenter actually saw that "awhile" ago, that would have been the first thing he commented on.
That comment section is being used for oter things.....
The comments are now more about baiting Ted than talking about the stuff he puts up.
Your daily moment of OH PULEEZE
Doesn't anyone else think its amusing that one of the Ted letter's is signed by Gray (as in goose). Do you think Austin's now taken to trying to out Jake as well.
fyi.. oh puleeze indeed. As i've probably said many times before, stuff like this actually makes me fell sorry for Reese. Getting pr by flogging overpriced knickers is a long way to fall for someone who won an oscar only a few years ago.
What a great post, I haven't read The Overcoat and it sounds like a wonderful story. I always love a nice overcoat on a man, it conveys strength or something.
RE the Oh Puleeze story. Isn't it funny how the story has now changed? 1st the story was Reese gave Jake private show in dressing room and the she paid for some skimpy, purple bra & underwear set in some kinky sex toy shop. Now the story is she bought 2 sets of extremely expensive camisole & boy shorts underwear. Very different from kinky & sexy. The 2nd story is probably closest to the truth. Maybe her PR realized the they went overboard on the 1st story, because generally it got alot of laughs on the internet and they're trying to put something not as laughable out there.
Isn't there a third version with cashmere pajamas?? Maybe in US??
My money is on pr putting out all the different versions for a variety of reasons, starting with the fact that each new version makes the rounds and gets Myla some more advertising.
How many times can this story be repeated by various tabloids? This is getting out of hand. It's like they have nothing to write about and they keep repeating the same bullshit for more than a week. They are pathetic.
I forgot to add that it's even more ridiculous that one week we have the reports of them going through crisis and what do we see next? A happy couple buying sexy things.
A child can see that there is an obvious connection between these two facts.
They have column inches to fill, it's meaningless.
Unlike Austin's overcoat :)
^^^^^^^^^ Say a Prayer.
XXXXXXXXX Finhers crossed.
GO PHILS!
I love those legs around Austin's neck. Austin is the the man.
Go Phillies!
He loves that coat. You know there's some story behind it, because it keeps showing up over and over. And an overcoat in Southern California is definitely working your own fashion beat.
Go Phils!
yes I do have a Phillies' shirt, hey you gotta have a National League team and an American League team
Good evening, everyone,
It has been one wet day; rained all day long, no walk, no sun.
But that happens sometimes; nothing can be done about it. Started to look over my 2009 Health Benefits Enrollment stuff and it was too much for my little brain, so I set it aside. Do you guys have to go through this stuff every year? There is a slight increase in your monthly benefits cost.... yup, get that every year. your co-pay has increased...you must now pay a percentage of the total cost... It takes awhile to look over everything and I'm not very good at it. Found that out earlier this year when I had to have a bone scan on my ankle/foot and it ended up costing me over $300 to pay the difference. Gagamatic. What's my coverage again, cough cough?
While I was getting ready for work this morning, this story came on the news about Wal Mart, who has been doing some in-depth studies over the trends of their customers these past few months and they are "greatly disturbed" over what they are finding. That alot of their customers are living paycheck to paycheck. That their customers are spending more on staples and no longer on frivolous items. That their customers are spending the most at the beginning of the months because that's probably when payday comes. (probably the middle of the month, too).
No kidding! This kills me (and I do shop at Wally World and they are my company's biggest customer so I'm not going to diss just them, but instead I'm grouping them together with all other retailers) to hear the retailers crying about how it's going to be a slim holiday. Get used to it. Deal with it. Quit cryin'. You can't force your customers to buy more than they can afford. I know 2 people who had/have taken an extra parttime job just to make ends meet. One of them is a divorced mom with 2 children. I know she wouldn't have taken a 2nd job if she didn't have to. I also heard that Americans are staying at home more, eating out less, etc. You know, it is a little rough. But maybe some of the results could be a blessing in disguise. Families eating together more around the kitchen table & actually visiting with one another. All of us being happy with what we have or being happy with something a little "less" and discovering that hey, it's not so bad after all. We don't always have to have "the best." The "top drawer". But don't ever tell the retailers that. ;)

Agree, Lily. How is it that it started out as the big Purple Ensemble and now it's been tamed down to businesswear delicates? Could've been a How-To video for all we know. The whole thing is just a joke at this point. And really, just about totally blown over, much like a rainstorm in sunny Florida. They're just trying to milk whatever they can out of it. Until Reese's next London appearance. Gee, wonder what's next on the itinerary?
Watched the original High School Musical this evening. Say what you will about Disney but Kenny Ortega is a genius and quite a talent. HSM is a money juggernaut. I can't help loving this lil' movie. It's a feelgood, innocent show with very realistic situations, great uplifting & inspirational message, and the music/dancing fantastic. And what it did to help contribute to Hollywood's semi-return to the musical is not to be underestimated.
Well, time to hit the hay. I saw a long movie trailer the other night for "Australia" with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. What a romantic looking movie. Love Hugh Jackman. Really like Nicole, too.
Hey, click on this picture & check out the old Jake. Remember this guy? This is one hot picture.
HELLO.....Hello...hello....hello
Just testing the echo ! LOLLL!
Roll call! OMG-ers, SOUND OFF!
Smiley? Chris? Do I have to wait until another Reeke appearance in order to hear from you guys & know that you're still out amongst the living? Miss ya.
Sweet dreams. }-o
Oh, triple crud!!! Special, please help me out bigtime! I triple posted and I don't have my little trashcan. How come that lil trashcan isn't always there, anyways? I don't understand that.
Come on, delete those last 2, would ya? Consider them anonymous and zap them. zzzzzzttt
goshdangit, now that's going to bug me. how embarrassing.
"They're just trying to milk whatever they can out of it. Until Reese's next London appearance. Gee, wonder what's next on the itinerary?"
For the next few weeks, I don't think it will matter what type of photo op Reese plans, the rag mags have better things to write about-Brangelina's back in the public eye and the whole Jen Aniston/John Mayer reunion/possibly pregnant stories. Reese must be spitting nails that she won't be getting any prime rag mag space.
Reese will never replace Jennifer as America's sweetheart; Jennifer generates far more interest and she was one of the top earning actresses last year. I guess Reese should have gone the poor victim route rather than the vindictive bearding route.
Just now had a chance to really listen to the music. I can't believe one of you managed to find a song called gray overcoat. The sentiment of the song seems so right too; I particularly like the line (and image) about running down the road.
There is a small pic of Jake arriving at LAX in this paparazzi site.

Is anybody else getting a script error with blogger right now? I've been getting one since last night; even rebooted last night. It's not preventing me from doing anything, but I'm not getting the icon besides peoples' blogger names.
Thanks, Special, for zapping my extra posts. You are the one with the Magic Wand. Could you wave that thing over Reeke and give it the ol' heave ho, lol
Hey, thanks, new pic. Boy, how on earth did you find this thing? Talk about an obscure website; well, at least over here, anyway. Looks like it's German. Hey, you know there's this super website, www.woxicon.com that translates a word into whatever language you need.
Looks like he got some leave, lol.
Phew, all I can think of is what a long flight. Wouldn't want to do that a whole lot. Do you ever wonder about these film/TV/Rock n Roll stars and who handles all their affairs when they're gone like this for a long time? Who pays their bills for them? Can you imagine relinquishing that kind of control over to somebody? "Here. Here's my checkbook. Now be sure and pay the electricity bill, phone, cable, etc. etc. on time."
Who watches the house? Turns the thermostat to heat when temperatures start to drop so the pipes don't freeze? Drives their cars once in awhile so the oil doesn't get all clogged up in there? Enrolls them in their health benefits program? on and on and on.
I wonder if Jake is self concious about his hair, hence the constant little grey wooly cap. He could tie it back in a ponytail; I'd like to see that. Instead, he constantly covers it up when he's "out and about". I mean, it can't be cold yet in California. A wool cap seems kind of out of place. Just noticed the sunglasses. Inside an airport. Hmm. Skylights in there, perhaps? Looks like a long, dark tunnel, tho. Overanalyzing again, lolll? Can't help myself.
Well, if Jake's in LA then get ready for the long weekend photo ops of Reeke drinking coffee, shopping and holding hands. I'm sure we'll get at least one (if not 2) photo ops a day-Reese has alot of time to make up for. Wonder if Jake came back for Reese's movie premier. If he does walk the red carpet with her, than you know that Reeke won't be dying any time in the next couple of years.
It's too early for the movie premiere. With or without the red carpet they can quit Reeke any time they want.
